When Rene was presented with her second patient, it was such an advanced case that no physicians thought she would have success. When Rene started her Essiac treatments, the College of Physicians and Surgeons initially provided her a letter in support of all of her treatments, stating they would not interfere with her practice as long as she did not charge for her services and only treated patients that were sent to her by a physician.

Later, after pushback from several government entities, they sent an officer from the college with a warrant for her arrest, citing malpractice. Given that Rene had adhered to all of their requirements, they did not issue the warrant at that time and allowed her to continue practicing. However, the College of Physicians and Surgeons would be the medical governing body that would eventually lead to the closure of her practice and her arrest.
Though many supported her, those that did not and were in favor of modern treatments that brought significant money to the industry worked hard to invalidate and stop her treatments. Many physicians and entities that once supported her ended up stopping her practice entirely, even though she never charged for her services and and always followed the requests of those whom supported her. 🏥
