Resting from my day job is one thing, but trying to give myself breaks from my artwork is very challenging for me. Logically, I know it’s necessary to give yourself those breaks. Emotionally? Not so much. I think it would be a different story if my art was my whole life…if I didn’t need my day job to pay the bills. The reason I feel guilty taking rests from art work is because my time outside of my job is so limited. I feel incredibly guilty when I need to rest. I feel like time is flying away from me and I am not using it productively “enough”. (What IS enough?) I finally force myself to pause when I can see the quality of my work slipping; when I am pushing “just to get this song done” until my voice is hoarse and I am not even caring how it sounds. That’s when I know it’s time to chill out. Sometimes my body also forces me to slow down by getting sick — but I am trying to not let things reach that point because it’s a very unhealthy cycle of burnout. Can any other creatives relate? What signs tell you to slow down and rest? My aesthetic has been transforming this year and I’m allowing it. The “pick me” bleach and rainbow hair addiction is fading away, replaced by an organic “I pick myself” confidence.
First photo = me realizing I need to redecorate my entire life because the bimbo vibe is no longer working.
Second photo = impulsive headshot when I heard of a casting call in my area. Switched out my PJ tee for a decent top and let my hair down.
