Eco-acoustics – Understanding the forest through listening: DBCA I Australian Rural & Regional News A scientific survey is being carried out in the Perth Hills, near Mundaring. Scientists are seeking to better understand the health of the forest through the simple art of listening. Using the emerging science of eco-acoustics, researchers are monitoring forest soundscapes to better understand and b...
It’s that time of year, the hummingbirds are getting ready to head south and they’re tanking up on fuel as fast as they can, getting pretty feisty and competitive with each other! So tiny and such attitude lol.
Happy International Women’s Day! We are fierce, we are strong, we are unstoppable.
Thank you to everyone who supported us this year!
Do you struggle with the endless darkness this time of year too? It's sooo hard to get up in the morning, right? Raise your hand if you give the snooze button a workout every morning until the last. possible. moment (I see you and right there with ya). Especially when we're just about at the temperature where you can do the throw-boiling-water-in-the-air-and-it-freezes trick.
Take heart, it's all upward from now on. Hang in there!

GIS is what ties all of these together. What good is all that data if you don’t organize spatial data visually (mapping) and analyze trends you may not be able to easily see?
Technology—bane, boon, and hope as well Technology plays a pivotal role in intervention and creation of impact while tackling the new-age challenge of conservation of nature.

The Curse of Light for Creatures of the Night In habitat restoration, the need for darkness is largely overlooked. But for some species, it is necessary for survival.

Dangers of artificial light at night to birds How is artificial light at night (ALAN) disruptive to wildlife and what can you do to mitigate the impacts to migrating birds?
We reconstructed birdsong soundscapes from over 200,000 places: and they're getting quieter Research from across Europe and the US shows that as biodiversity declines, the natural world falls more silent.
I challenge you to go outside and listen - just stand still, close your eyes, and listen - become attuned to the sounds around you and note which sounds are geophony (wind, waterfalls, rain), biophony (birds, frogs, insects, other animals), and compare with those made by human-created objects such as machinery or engines (anthropophony). Do this on a regular basis for just a few minutes every day and you'll notice more all the time, along with when your soundscape changes. Drop a note and tell me what you find and how it makes you feel.
Opinion: Climate change won’t just destroy species and land – soundscapes are disappearing too Acoustic ecology has captured the imagination of musicians for decades, and when the habitats they studied are gone, recordings may be all we can ever experience of them
