Sunday AM Weather Briefing: HEAT ADVISORY for most of Georgia and South Carolina, cooler temps return to start the workweek!
Today’s high of 103F in Augusta was just two degrees shy of the record of 105 set in 1952.
It was boy band hot in Augusta today! Thankfully, the 98 degrees was not NSYNC with the humidity which was quite low behind a “cold” front.
It was certainly a hot one out there today ♨
Columbia hit 100°F 🌡 mark for the first time this year, but fell just shy of the record of 103°F. In general, the area ran 5-10°F above normal for June 24th.

Have you noticed the large numbers painted at the ends of runways? These numbers aren't random—they have a crucial purpose in aviation! 🛫
Runway numbers are based on the magnetic azimuth (compass direction) that a runway faces. For example, a runway numbered 09 faces 90 degrees (east), while one numbered 27 faces 270 degrees (west). Runways are typically numbered between 01 and 36, representing the magnetic azimuth rounded to the nearest 10 degrees.
If a runway can be used in both directions, each end will have different numbers, 180 degrees apart. For instance, if one end is 09, the other end will be 27.

Here’s the latest from SWPC: It looks like the conditions that produced the VERY rare light show in the Deep South the past couple of nights has likely weakened to the point the northern lights will go back to being just that - the northern lights.
Conditions were not as intense as Friday night, but it looks like there ended up being some "Northern Lights in the South" Saturday night afterall!
The NOAA NWS Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a "G4 or Greater Geomagnetic Storm Watch" for Sunday too, so if we can keep some clouds away tonight, it could be another colorful night across the Deep South!
It isn’t looking like we will see the northern
lights in GA-Carolina tonight, but SWPC says Extreme G5 conditions may return Sunday night.
The Space Weather Prediction Center reports EXTREME G5 conditions Friday night. Could we see the Aurora lights in GA/SC? Possibly. Viewing tips in comments below.
