BFL offers supports and engagement to black students who aspire to go to law school.
BFL is a collaboration between University of Toronto Law, our Black Law Students Assoc., members of our Black alumni community, and the broader legal profession.

This is not a drop-in session. The presentation will begin at 12pm (Toronto time) sharp and will not be recorded.

SPRING/SUMMER LAW SCHOOL TOURS
Go on a UofT law school tour guided by a current JD student during May to August.
Twice a week generally, on select weekdays (Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri) and start times (either 12pm or 1pm), choose a tour and hear first-hand about the student experience that awaits in our JD program.
The next tours are on May 30 and June 1.

McCarthys Job Shadowing Program
The aim of this program is to provide a job-shadowing opportunity for BFL Program Participants. The program will provide participants with the opportunity to learn and practice “business of lawyering” skills. The goal is to expose participants to the Business of Law, including required skills for success such as interviewing and pitching. Participants will exercise their interpersonal, presentation, oral advocacy, strategic thinking, and teamwork skills. Through this program, we hope to demystify the legal field and create opportunities for students to build their professional networks.
Program Overview:
Feb 20th - 24th 2023 -Mentor Matching and connection with McCarthys/BFL Job Shadowing Program Coordinator
Feb 28th 2023 12-3pm - Program Launch at McCarthys
March 1st - 14th 2023 - 1 on 1 with Lawyers and/or Articling students

Black Future Lawyers program (BFL) offers supports and engagement opportunities to Black undergraduate students who aspire to go to law school and become lawyers. BFL’s goal is to increase the number of Black students who apply and gain admission to UofT Law and other law schools.
The BFL Court Observation Program aims to provide an experiential learning opportunity for BFL Program Participants. This opportunity will allow BFL students to gain exposure to a range of lawyering skills and the judiciary These skills will ensure a successful
bridge between their time as a BFL member as they move into law school and a career in the legal field.
The Court Observation Project has 3 key aspects:
i. Orientation to the Court and proper decorum
ii. Courtroom Visit
iii. Connecting with Crown Attorneys
