Purdy Lane Farm
Unofficially organic, mostly manually-powered farm in the Heart of Nova Scotia.
Great for a weekend get away with scenic camping, hiking trails, and hearty helping of country hospitality.
Colour is everywhere! Flowers bring so much joy. Who knew?
May was full of fire and June is drowning us. Not sure what kind of cataclysm July will bring, but we persist and many things continue to grow!
A big thanks to our great friend Ann Kernohan of Ballymena Farm Cottage for the raw wool that we're using as mulch. It's organic, long-lasting, retains water, and has immediate anti-slug properties! Can't wait to get planting!!!
Also our crocuses are up: Yay!
Four whole years of darling Willow Jean! π π¦π₯³πΊπππ¦ππ
Can't wait to see the finished product! Also I'd say of all names out there, I most often get called Stephanie. What name do people use for you by mistake? π€£π€£π€£
This is local flax roving which I will be spinning up for Sam - grown on her farm in the town in Nova Scotia where I live now! You can't get much more local than that :)
It was grown as a part of the Flax Mobile Project, where 15 farmers all across the province grew the flax for NSCAD Assistant Professor Jennifer Green and in exchange for growing, kept half of the harvest.

A rare view of the garden without a single w**d insight. Only 16 weeks to go until gardening can truly begin! π₯³... Weeding season starts in 12 wks though. π¬
Of course some trees fell, but we got off lucky with Fiona. Apples trees are fine and the chicken coop escaped a crushing by inches!
Frost forced closing time, some good harvests, many good times.
So proud of our garden this year! The light is just magical this time of year.
August snaps
Early August photo dump! Ahhh, summer.
Last one is my now complete knit up in my madder-dyed cotton yarn. I'm pretty obsessed with my summer knitting at the moment :)
Some lovely guidance and support given today by Jennie of the Flaxmobile project. We're very excited to see where these tiny flax seeds will take us this season. Couldn't have asked for better weather! Not much in the way of amendments pre-planting to our sandy, rocky soil so fingers crossed π€π€π€
Came across a pair of antlers dropped in the lane. As someone who is periodically losing their keys/wallet/phone... I feel ya buddy.
