Just a quick post to say a huge Thank You to all of Nova Scotia for the support you have shown our product in the stores we have access to.
Linda and I appreciate every single one of you.
Thank you.
This is Sobeys supporting local at its Finest!!! Where do you get featured as a small grower / supplier like this in store ?
Thank you very much Sobeys Mumford Road . Sooooo cool So local.
# Sobeys support local food .
Local support by Chester on the South Shore .
Our buddy Rob from Pheasant Creek Farm was just here to stock up his fabulous shoots and microgreens . He’s so pleased how well they are selling . ( He doesn’t know we have the very best customers here in the Chester areas😉 but he’s learning ) .
Thank you Berwick for coming out and supporting Foodland enabling us to keep the product available in Berwick .
If by chance you live in the Spryfield area, from today our products are a available at Sobeys Spryfield.
Once again Sobeys supporting us with access to more stores.
Big thank you to Sobeys and Jeff the produce Manager at Sobeys Spryfield.

We growing again.......with the help and assistance of Sobeys.
Sobeys' commitment to local produce once again shines through!
Our microgreens are now available at Pete's Frootique in Bedford and Halifax, big thanks to Pete's dedicated team. Get yours today and support local produce.
The only way we as Nova Scotians can be assured of long term food security is if local producers like ourselves are able to get our products to local markets and that means local grocers providing access to their shelves.
Please support the retailers that truly support and enable locally produced food to be available to all of us.
A big thank you to all Nova Scotians that buy our microgreens we appreciate the support very much.
Great news for Fresh Microgreen lovers in Berwick area.
Foodland Berwick is now stocking our microgreens and the full range.
Thank you to Dexter (Owner) and Mike (Produce Manager) for deciding to stock our product. Big thanks to the staff of Foodland that made it possible getting product into the system.
This is again as good as it gets when a local store stocks local product.
In this case local means very local as Pheasant Creek Farm is in Berwick.
Had a conversation with a lady at Spidels in Chester that really made my day today.
This lady is a senior on fixed income that buys 2 of our products each week and loves them.
She and her husband are vegetarians. But what made my day was just how appreciative of the fact that we produce a fresh product like our microgreens for her to access in local stores. Wonderful lady thank you for making my day.
I have had many different careers in my entrepreneurial life, always wanted to be a farmer and produce food. Left it a bit late. Where i came from farming is a perilous career so not on the cards.
There is nothing more rewarding than experiencing people that appreciate the food one grows. Its a lot of work but when you experience such appreciation its worth every minute.
More farmers should get out into the stores and chat with the public, would do their mental health the world of difference.
# fresh local food
# food security
Thank you to all those who purchase our products we appreciate each and everyone of you regardless of how often or how much you purchase.
What does Easter time mean to you?
Sadly to us since we started farming it has come to mean .........A time of WASTE.
Producing fresh food delivered to stores at ridiculous gov regulated gas prices that merely add to the cost of what is already a wasteful time.
Waste as in product we have to credit stores. Product that gets looked over in favor of chocolate.
Its cripplingly depressing to throw away thousands of dollars of food.
Thank you to those who continue to purchase our microgreens and who enjoy our products. Just wish there were more of you .
The perils of what we face in the future with AI
About a year ago, my son and I were talking about Chat GPT and for a bit of fun I asked him about showing me how it worked.
So i said lets see what Chat Gpt can come up with about Microgreens.
Lets ask it to create a poem.
about microgreens
make the poet Snoop Dog.
Lets see what it comes up with.
Well i was blown away , I saved it. As clever as it is, it concerned me.
Before you read the poem Chat Gpt wrote think hard about what you are about to read.
Ask yourself what the impact of this is going to be in the future without any controls.
Many of the best poetry or books were written long before most humans alive today were even born.
Ai can only train/learn from past essentially histororical content it can get access to. It does not have the imagination of the human mind to be able to create original thought.
Original thought is required for numerous things we totally take for granted today.
Peace negotiations for a start.
Composition of an original photograph or painting or book.
With that said have a good laugh at this its funny in some ways but darn scarry in another. This is exactly how Chat GPT put out the answer.
And NO good old Snoop Dog had nothing to do with this message in fact its a disservice to any artist/creator to have the robot software use their name. However I could not illustrate the problem of AI without it.
I'm Snoop D-O-double-G, and I'm here to say
Microgreens, they're the bomb, in every single way,
From the farm to the kitchen, they're the greenest of the greens
A sprinkle on a salad, or a garnish on some greens
They're small but mighty, and packed with nutrition
A sustainable crop, easy to grow with minimal water and a simple light illumination
Radish, arugula, and so many varieties
Each with its own unique flavor and qualities
Add them to a sandwich, or a wrap so tight
Microgreens bring life, to your meal day and night
So listen up ya'll, and don't be late
Microgreens are the future, and they're here to stay
Snoop Dogg approve this message, and that's for real
Microgreens, the best thing in a wrap, a salad, and meal
On a -12 Celsius morning you know She still loves you, after more than 32 years, when you have a home made bacon and Hidden Creek Farm eggs multigrain breakfast sandwhich all wrapped in foil for eating on the road to Halifax.
16 stores to deliver Fresh microgreens to in Hrm and Dartmouth today as per usual for a Friday.
Along with a cup of instant Nestle holiday coffee. Holiday coffee in our house means a teaspoon of condensed milk is added to make the coffee creamy and sweet.
This is called love and teamwork and how to make food affordable.
With the beginning of March and end of the month, we are appealing to all our supporters to please not forget us as you go about your shopping this Easter.
Last year for the March/April period our waste cost us $4867 in waste which we had to credit stores for and then still deal with the cost of that product as well as disposal. Its crippling to us when this happens.
We extremely grateful for all the support we have been shown by the retailers that stock our product, and more importantly by the community, in your continued purchase of our product , we working very hard to have fresh product available in as many stores as we can get into.
We are a long way from being a sustainable farm.
Take a look at the graphic. Look at who has what share of the grocery market and what you see is a picture that indicates if a business does not get access to specific chains then a huge portion of the community does not get exposure to the product. And the market for microgreens is tiny so access to big chains like Sobeys is vital if we are to get this farm to sustainability.
Those who have asked why we are not in Superstore, I suggest you ask Loblaws where their support of local produce is at.
They very good at public relations spin but thats all it is.
In contrast we have been in Sobeys stores now for exactly one year this month. They are committed to supporting local. Ask anyone who works in their stores, they all about local. They walk the talk. Its not just spin.
This is what one calls local support
Did you know yesterday was Agriculture Day in Canada?
No farmers = No food its that simple.
Did u know there were only 262 000 farmers in the whole of Canada in 2021
and their average age is 56 . Did you know that number was 346 000 in 2001.
I will do the math for you, thats 84 000 decline in 20 years or 4200 per year.
In 10 years time most will be due to retire what happens then?
We have seen the shortage of skilled trades now that housing is a crisis all a consequence of poor guidance , how is the decline of people becoming farmers going to be fixed and what impact will farmers age have on food production and food security in the future ?
Lets all put our heads in the ground and maybe the problem will go away.
Way too much to handle eh!
Rather worry anout Taylor Swift and her football boyfriend. lol
Who needs food its overated no ?
The Pheasant in Pheasant Creek name out for a walk on the snow. Resident Pheasant chasing after a hen could not get a shot of the hen she was on the move.

This is Bok Choy or Pak Choi Microgreen wrapped in a roll of ham or Italian Prosciutto to make a chinese cabbage roll.
