Hey Zoo! Hope everyone's been enjoying this spring. With the end of the academic year, we are still looking to complete our new Council for the 2024-2025 year! As a result, we are officially putting out the call for nominations for our next VP Events!

If you are interested in applying, the steps are simple:

Are you a student looking to take your technical electives next year, or are looking to plan your degree well in advance? Well, if you answered yes then you're in luck as we have an event just for you!

ZOO will be hosting its annual Technical Elective Night in collaboration with the Electrical and Software Engineering Department (ESE) on Tuesday, March 19th at 5pm.

ESE instructors will be presenting their current technical electives courses, as well as, future technical electives so you will be able to learn more about your options for your upcoming years. This is a great opportunity for you to interact directly with faculty members, ask them questions, and get a better understanding of the options you have as students in Software or Electrical Engineering.

~ ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM) ~
As we approach the end of the school year, it becomes a time to reflect on what the 2023-2024 Council was able to achieve along with feedback on ways to improve. Join us during the AGM on Wednesday, March 20th @ 5pm in our Homeroom (ENA 106) as we start the meeting with this year in review.

Once presentations have concluded we will move onto the period for constitution amendments. Take a look at our existing one linked below and fill out the respective constitution amendment form to participate in the proposal process.

Applications will be due on Friday, March 22nd @ 11:59pm. Please note that the Executive Officer applications require 5 signatures from ANY student in the Electrical or Software Engineering major. Completed applications should be sent to [email protected]

⭐ ENGG WEEK STARTS NEXT WEEK! ⭐
We hope you’re as excited as we are for one of the most eventful weeks of the school year, ENGG Week! ENGG Week is officially running from Monday, January 8th to Friday, January 12th and will involve a bunch of different events to ensure that there is something for everyone!

To view the actual event list and their scheduled times, you can view the Judge's official event schedule at their website that can be found here, https://enggweekhj.wixsite.com/enggweek/events-1. Some specific details are still being released, but there is some general context provided on the site to provide some insight on what you can expect with each event!

Now throughout the week, the many Departments will bring their A-game to earn points based on their performance and participation in various competitive events, games, and challenges! By the end of it all, one Department will be crowned the best Department getting to take home the ENGG Week Cup. In addition, all proceeds collected over the week going to the winning Department's charity of choice.

This year, ZOO is competing on behalf of Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse, you can find out more about the cause via their website.

EiE (Embedded in Embedded) is an extracurricular hands-on embedded systems experience led by industry engineers that takes students through the fundamentals and applications of hardware and firmware. The program ran for 18 years at the U of C before the COVID interruption, but is back for 2023!

In addition to the technical side of EiE being excellent, you are also provided the opportunity to join a network of over 2000 students and industry professionals who have enjoyed the program.

Be sure to attend this year's information session to gain a better understanding of what to expect through the program and ask any questions!

This workshop will feature the use of the Emotiv Epoch X – a wireless EEG headset used extensively in Dr. Adam Kirton’s pediatric BCI lab. We will go over the applications of BCI in different neurological conditions with impaired motor and speech disabilities, including stroke and Parkinson's. We will also demonstrate how this device and its associated software can be easily trained to learn EEG signatures of users’ mental commands, and how these learnt commands can be mapped to various keyboard/mouse actions to control external applications – like video games or robot control software!

This workshop is focusing on the basics of game development while using pygame and will help you recreate the classically frustrating game, Flappy Bird, but with your own spin on it! In addition to the coding session, you'll gain some insight into the work Schulich Ignite does and learn about some of their volunteer opportunities.
