🌊 The Ovens Natural Park 🌊

The unique geology and dramatic beauty of the Ovens Park has drawn a diverse group of people to this lovely destination year after year. People seem to find their own resonance and releases here at the home of Nova Scotia’s oldest legend (Indian Cave), here among the 150 year-old scars and implements of the 1861 gold rush, where the sea still echoes of vague references to rum-running (not so rare in this area) and Captain Kidd, and where the Cunard family laid claim to most our beach and then eventually removed it. Wow!

During our 75 years of camping experience, families have been drawn to the incredible beauty, diverse geography, fascinating history, and spiritual solace that make The Ovens Park so unique. The smell of campfires amid the historic setting takes one back to a simpler time, a welcome respite in a world that’s constantly changing. Our vintage campground is a delicate and natural environment and we are pleased to share it’s splendor with the public. We keep a close watch on the health of the park and the impact our activities have on it. Our decision to down scale to vintage type trailers or RVs under 30 feet in length will help in the preservation of the property.

Some of the highlights of the park season are the annual Chapin Music Festival, the unique sea caves, tours, gold panning on Cunard’s beach, the miner’s museum and nightly entertainment by the fire. Great place for the kids to explore and a playground with lots of equipment. Take a dip in the pool or in the ocean at Cunard Beach.

Admission charged. Stay for a while and rent a cabin or bring your camper/tent. The kids won’t want to leave!

It’s a South Shore landmark… no Blarney! 🍀

At some point between Liverpool and Bridgewater, the mind follows the growling stomach straight into the parking lot of the Blarney Stone Restaurant. This family-run reminder that some traditions are more delicious than others has been a year-round mainstay since 1983. Whether you phone ahead and order your Fish ‘n’ Chips to-go, or settle in for a bowl of Seafood Chowder and a chat – the Blarney Stone never disappoints. Even fussy little eaters will be happy! The service is fast and friendly, the food is pure comfort, and the sign is a welcoming beacon just when you need it the most.

Businesses like the Blarney Stone are a treasure, adding to the charm (and the waistlines) of South Shore locals and visitors alike. Come for the Clams, stay for the Coconut Cream pie!

Oh sure, there’s plenty of talk about the lighthouse route, but we’ll happily advise you to take a turn on Highway 12 and head north a ways – where they’re waiting with a Year-Round Welcome in New Ross, Nova Scotia. It’s true, and in addition to all those hospitable residents – you’re sure to find so many wonderful things to see and experience – all spring, summer, autumn and winter long!

Starting with a step back in time at Ross Farm Museum. There you can experience what life was like in every season for Captain William Ross and his family as they lived off the land back in the late 1800s. From tapping the trees for syrup in the spring, tending to the crops in the summer, packing up preserves every autumn to get them through the winter months and celebrating the holidays with sleigh rides and snowshoe adventures. Ross Farm Museum is a real working farm alright – with crops and cattle, sheep and horses plus a producing cooper’s mill too.

Meet our member: The Shore Club - Hubbards NS

It all started in 1936…

When the Shore Club was built in 1946, its lobster suppers had already been happening since 1936 on Hubbards Beach.

With the building in place, the lobster suppers moved indoors and over the years the experience evolved.

Year after year we receive tourists from all over the world looking for a taste of Nova Scotia and Nova Scotians coming back for a taste of Summer.

And it wasn’t just the food…

There has always been a live band on stage every single Summer Saturday night since 1946.

Making the Shore Club “Nova Scotia's Last Great Dance Hall”.

For the past 76 years they have brought the best lobsters and greatest live music to people from all over the world

Be a part of the Can Do Crew at the Mobility Cup!

See what a CAN DO attitude can do as the Lunenburg Yacht Club hosts the 2024 Mobility Cup – Canada’s International Regatta for Sailors with Disabilities. Known as the “Regatta of Possibility” the event is truly inspirational as social, geographic, technological, and organizational barriers are challenged in the spirit of friendly competition.

The Yacht Club has been preparing for the event with gusto – updating the Club’s infrastructure to include two fully accessible washrooms with showers, ramps, and dockside improvements, and raising the entire Clubhouse deck to accommodate new doors that will open wide to welcome these incredible athletes. Live entertainment and ticketed dining events mean everyone is welcome to join the fun as a guest, spectator, or sponsor, from August 26 to 30.

The Mobility Cup runs on volunteers, and they could sure use help from our South Shore community! Step up to assist with mealtime, dockside duties, athlete support, clean up, and even parking. Find event information and Volunteer opportunities at MobilityCup.com. If they CAN DO this, we can too.

Come to Your Senses - South Shore Tourism Cooperative 03/08/2024

Come to Your Senses ☺️

We’ve all grown quite accustomed to using GPS to get around. Hard to imagine it now but before the global positioning system was made available for public use back in 1983 we old folks actually used paper maps. Incredibly hard to refold but other than asking for directions – it was the most convenient way to navigate your journey. Since the beginning of humankind, however, a person’s means of navigating experiences was left to their 5 senses – SIGHT, HEARING, TASTE, TOUCH and SMELL. And so it is with each of those in mind that we created this Come to Your Senses Bucket List loaded with Liverpool delights.

Get ready to go ⬇️

Lighthouse Lovers - South Shore Tourism Cooperative 31/07/2024

We here on Nova Scotia’s South Shore are tried and true lighthouse lovers. They have always stood as a beacon – a steady guide for shipping vessels, a signal of hope for wayward ships. Over the centuries they’ve evolved. At first, no two lighthouses would be painted the same so that their colour pattern would serve as navigation by day as would their one-of-kind light patterns at night.

Eventually, the lighthouse keepers and their families gave way to modern technologies and computerized capabilities. But even after the hundreds and hundreds of years since our first lighthouse was built back in back in 1788 folks still look towards the stalwart lighthouses that dot Nova Scotia’s South Shore – loyal lights for seafarers and lovely landmarks for visitors and locals alike.

And while there’s much for lighthouse lovers to marvel at from our blue Atlantic waters, there’s plenty of ways to experience them all as you travel along our legendary Lighthouse Route. Take a trip along the winding stretch as it hugs the coastline from Peggy’s Cove at the tip all the way south to Woods Harbour. You’ll find the link to our complete list of our lighthouses below – be sure to note while some are accessible by car others are only on foot but all of them are remarkable and without question not to be missed.
