Families Response to “Freedom Convoys” inappropriate use of (Frog Lake Round Dance Video 2018) GreyEagle Cardinal: For those of you who are not aware, the “Freedom Convoy” STOLE a video of my late father Eugene Cardinal and posted it to their page saying that he was singing in support of their Convoy. The video was recorded on January 30th 2018 and it had absolutely NOTHING to do with the convoy!! He was singing at a memorial round dance for one of his dear friends. Now here is what a lot of you do not know. This video is the last known footage of him singing. In the video he was in the final days of his life, going thru congestive heart failure and was losing his breath at a sit still and could not breath. He also had 1 prosthetic leg! He could barely stand!! Just a few days after this video was recorded he made his journey home to creator. This was a huge loss, not only for our family but for all of Indian country!! He was such an amazing person and role model to so many! He was one of our warriors fighting for our culture and language! Fighting for our rights!! He made the trip to Ottawa a couple times to fight for our people!! He believed with every ounce of his mind, body and soul that we must do everything we can to keep our culture and our ways alive!! He would not be in support of this movement!! When the family found out about this we were devastated and hurt! So many emotions and feelings and tears were brought back!! This has caused my mother so much grief! My mother who is still grieving his loss and misses him everyday!! The emotional damage that this has caused her is atrocious!! I sat here with her today as she cried and screamed for what they’ve done and I could not help but feel anger towards them!!! For them to do this is a disgrace!! They misappropriated his gift of song and tried to use it for their own gain. We will not just sit back and let this slide!
