👍 As a rule of thumb, we say that indoor dogs and cats should have their nails trimmed at least every 4-6 weeks. Sometimes this can be extended or shortened depending on your pet's lifestyle.

🐕 At your first nail trim appointment we can discuss your pet's lifestyle and get them on a schedule that is perfect for them!

🐶Dogs and cats are meant to walk on the pads of their feet, not their nails.

Their pads give them (padded) support, absorb impact and provide a non-slip surface.
Putting their body weight on their nails can cause:
🐾 toe and joint pain
🐾 slipping on floors which can lead to injuries such as muscle or ligament strains
🐾 sensitivity to handling
🐾 broken or cracked nails
🐾 unhealthy nail beds
🐾 long quicks

We are looking for an energetic, fun and hardworking Registered Veterinary Technician to join our team.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in learning the ins and outs of Canine Hydrotherapy with use of an Underwater Treadmill. Training on site will be provided.

Nail trimming is much more important than most owners think!

Not ALL nail trims are equal. Whoever is trimming your dog's nails should be using the proper techniques.

Improper trimming is VERY common and I see the after math with A LOT of our new patients.

If the nail is not trimmed short enough (right against the quick without cutting the quick), it will actually promote the quick to grow LONGER! Dogs who have improper nail trimming for years will have terribly long quicks.

If sharp edges are left on the end of the nail, you will be sure to see splitting and cracking in the days following the trim.

The time needed between trims should be relatively consistent for each individual dog. If you find the time between trims needs to vary, your dog's nails are not being trimmed to the same length at every appointment. This can promote quick lengthening!

Your dog's nails should all be around the same length after a trim. If some are longer than others, they were not trimmed short enough.

Animals who have their nails trimmed properly on a regular basis will be able to maintain short quicks as they get older. Maintaining short quicks is extremely important for mobility and joint health, especially as our dog's age.
