Winter Waltz (James Gelfand) A timeless and highly critically acclaimed collaboration between three internationally renowned artists from the Canadian music scene: violinist Helmut Lipsky, pianist James Gelfand and bassist Michel

Le 31 janvier 2024 à 19h, le Goethe-Institut Montreal, en collaboration avec le Consulat général allemand, présentera le Trio Grafeneck 10654 avec Louise Bessette, pianiste, Helmut Lipsky, violoniste et compositeur et Olivier Maranda, percussionniste, qui y interpréteront leur programme "GRAFENECK - Ode à la mémoire et l'espoir", créé par le compositeur suisse Thomas Fortmann et par Helmut Lipsky.
Ce concert raconte l’histoire du Château Grafeneck en Allemagne, un lieu de haute culture à la Renaissance, mais un lieu d’horreur en 1940, quand 10654 personnes handicapées y ont été tuées par les N***s dans la première chambre à gaz de type industriel de l’histoire.
Dans son introduction, l’artiste et historien de l’art Édouard Lachapelle, nous aidera à passer de ce qu’il nomme «l’année Grafeneck» aux questions que chacun doit se poser sur la responsabilité individuelle en regard du respect des droits de la personne.
Des œuvres d'art et des vidéos de l'artiste allemand Jochen Meyder accompagneront ce voyage à travers le temps.

We are so happy and proud that violinist Annette-Barbara Vogel will be again with us as part of our distinguished artist-faculty at the Clazz International Music Festival in Arcidosso, Tuscany, Italy in July of 2024!
A fabulous teacher and violin-virtuoso, Annette-Barbara Vogel’s rich international performing career has featured her as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician in over thirty countries across six continents. Considered one of the finest German violinists of her generation, she is renowned for her “authoritative and highly sensitive performances,” and “formidable technique, stunning musicality, and stage presence that transmits to orchestra and audience alike.” In 2010, Gramophone Magazine lauded “Vogel’s perfect intonation” and Classical CD Review exclaimed, that she was “about the most ideal exponent a composer could hope for.”

Nous sommes très heureux de pouvoir accueillir le magnifique pianiste et compositeur québécois Yves Léveillé au Clazz International Music Festival. Reconnu partout à la fois pour ses compositions et ses arrangements, ainsi que pour ses nombreuses collaborations musicales avec des jazzmen de premier plan, des chanteurs, auteurs-compositeurs, comédiens et metteurs en scène, il est aussi le fondateur des Productions Yves Léveillé, un organisme voué à la production et présentation de concerts de jazz contemporain. Soutenue par les différents paliers gouvernementaux, la compagnie artistique multiplie ses activités (production de concerts, tournées, albums) sans cesse. En collaboration avec Effendi Records et MAtv Montréal, sa compagnie a produit les séries de télévision JAZZ à VUE depuis 2022.
Le musicien Léveillé est tantôt en quête du phrasé rêvé, tantôt cérébral, tantôt lyrique, travaillant obstinément dans une optique de recherche de beauté jazzistique.

My piece "Épilogue" is #1 on N1M (Number One Music). I recorded this piece with the wonderful cellist David Darling, who has left us about two years ago, at his studio in Connecticut in 1998. I mixed and mastered it shortly afterwards at Studio JPL in Montréal for the movie "L'Espérance" by Stefan Pleszczynski. It represents well the mood I'm in during these difficult times, considering the challenges humanity is facing. 🙏💗
