Stephen Foster for District 9
This is the official page for Stephen Foster, candidate for District 9 Halifax West Armdale in the 2
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to give a HUGE thank you to all the people who offered me their support over the course of the campaign. And in particular, I wanted to thank my amazing volunteers, who were out there every single day pounding the pavement. It's truly been an amazing experience. It may not have been the result I was hoping for, but I gave it my all, and it was a strong showing in the end. No regrets! And who knows what the future will hold for me - there's always the next election.
Anyway, again, thank you all so much - I feel so lucky to have had the chance to run in this amazing district, and to get to know it even better. Best district in Halifax for sure!
And with that, I'm done ! Final stats: 19 runs, 171km of streets, 2.6km of elevation gain, and 1 district fully covered! What an experience it's been.
Updated map, only one run left to go! I thought it made sense to finish things off on election day, at the iconic Di**le Tower. I've had an amazing time . Don't forget to get out there and vote tomorrow if you haven't already!
What with it being Thanksgiving and all, and with the campaign starting to wind down this week, now seems like a good time to look back on the past couple months, and reflect on how things have gone.
When I started this whole endeavour, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. I knew that I wanted to help make Halifax a better place to live in, and I believed that I could really do that if given a chance. But I didn't know the first thing about politics, or about running a campaign.
Now, after a whirlwind couple of months spent canvassing, and answering emails, and responding to surveys, I find that...well, I still don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to politics and campaigning. But man, has it been an amazing experience. My time spent campaigning has only reaffirmed my belief that Halifax is one of the best places to live in the world, and that District 9 is one of the best places to live in Halifax. I've been able to meet and talk with so many amazing new people, and also reconnect with some people I hadn't talked to for years. And I've been able to really get to know the district in a way I simply couldn't before - the one thing that's struck me during my time "running" in the district has been how many beautiful neighbourhoods there are tucked away in areas you wouldn't expect.
I also have to say that I've been truly touched by the outpouring of support that I've gotten throughout the campaign. From people offering to put up signs, to the work done by my amazingly dedicated volunteers, it's really been a humbling experience. All I can say is that if I am elected, I'm going to put in the work required to make sure that your votes don't go to waste.
To sum up: I'm thankful to live in an amazing city like Halifax, and I'm thankful for all the support that I've received. Win or lose, I'll have no regrets about my decision to run, or about how I've run my campaign. You rock, District 9.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Great run today around Herring and Purcell's Cove Roads! I now have Chocolate Lake surrounded. Expecting its surrender soon.
Out there waving at traffic this morning, trying to get the vote out!
Check out CBC news tonight at 6pm! Colleen Jones will have a story about my efforts to run all the streets of District 9 by election day. Hope you tune in!
And remember, you can vote online or by phone starting TODAY. So why put it off? Grab your voter card and make your voice heard!
Finished off the last of the peninsula, and passed 100km total - two milestones in my effort to run all of District 9 by election day. The end is in sight!
Had an great day canvassing with some amazing volunteers!

This election, I'll be running in District 9 - in more ways than one Ever since I first decided to put my name in as a candidate in District 9, one of the things I was most looking forward to was getting to know the community better. With the campaign now getting into gear, I started thinking: how can get my message out, while also engaging with voters and seeing mor...
I was outside city hall a little while ago, talking to some very nice people protesting the visitation restrictions in place at our long term care facilities. Right now, residents are getting maybe one visit a week, at best. While I understand the need to keep our seniors protected, I can’t help but think of my grandfather, who lived in a long term care facility for years. His daily visits from family members were what kept him going, and I don’t know what he would have done had he been essentially cut off from us for months. Mental health is just as important as physical health (not to mention that with reduced activities, these past six months have been taking a physical toll as well).
It’s actually real now! Officially a candidate in district 9
I've had a lot of people ask how they could help support the campaign, which really means a lot to me - I didn't expect such a strong response. It's both humbling, and motivating. It makes me want to get out there and prove that I'm worthy of your support, and your trust.
If you do want to contribute to the campaign, I'm now accepting donations - check out https://www.votestephenfoster.ca/support for more info. Any contribution you can make would be hugely appreciated, and you can know that I'll make sure it gets put to good use.
Of course, I know that many of you won't be in a position to make a financial contribution - and honestly, if it would cause you anything in the way of financial stress, I wouldn't want you to! Keep your money; it's probably better spent elsewhere. The best way you can support the campaign is simply by helping to spread the word that I'm running, and helping to get my message out there - as they say, a share is worth more than a shilling.
Support | Vote Stephen Foster Donations help keep the campaign running and allow me to get my message out to more people. All contributions, big or small, are greatly appreciated, and will be put to good use.
Very excited to be announcing my campaign! Over the next few weeks leading up to the election, I'll be doing a series of runs that will take me along every single street in the district. If you see me on your street, I hope you'll flag me down - you can ask me any questions you have, and tell me about your concerns. I'm also hoping that some of you might join me for a run or two - the more the merrier!
