With spring in full bloom, this is the perfect time to let go of the old, and open yourself to the new. Traditional Chinese Medicine associates the spring season with the Liver, which is responsible for the smooth flow of qi (energy) in our body.
Imbalances of the liver are common root causes of many issues, to a large extent due to the fast paced modern lives we tend to lead. This shows up in the body as muscle tension (especially in the neck and shoulders), headaches, migraines, PMS and menstrual irregularities, interrupted sleep, insomnia, depression, anxiety, stress, frustration, anger, IBS and other digestive issues.
🚶🏻♀️Things to do:
Walk outdoors (especially in the woods).
Stretch and move your body (like tai chi or yoga).
Journal and reflect.
Do a bit of spring cleaning and purging.
Relax and include moments of ease in your days.
Envision future plans and set goals.
🥦Foods to include:
Green vegetables, dark leafy vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, sprouts, fermented foods, beets, blackberries, cherries, whole grains, lemons, dandelion greens, turmeric, basil, cilantro, mint, chrysanthemum.
Eat to 80% full, and stop 2-3 hours before sleep.
🚫Foods avoid:
Greasy/heavy fat food, fried foods, alcohol, sugar, spicy foods, stimulants.
✨Lastly, let go of resentment and the past that no longer serves you. Practice patience and forgiveness. Show kindness and compassion.
And don’t forget to be gentle and kind with yourself.
Acupunture can help to balance your system as well. Come see Valentina at Soma Studios somastudio.janeapp.com/locations/soma-studio-west-trafalgar-street/book #/staff_member/100 , Chinese medicine, , ’sbestacuojnturist

Meet Delina Somani, RMT - Soma Burnaby
⭐️
Delina graduated from WCCMT in 2001. Her practice is primarily focused on treating chronic pain, rehabilitation and stress reduction. Delina has a special interest in the healing benefits of yoga which lead her to complete a yoga instructor certification through Prana Yoga College in 2007. Delina works together with patients to come up with individualized treatment plans and goals. She uses a variety of techniques and modalities including neuromuscular techniques, Swedish massage, myofascial release, frictions, joint mobilization, trigger-point release, facilitated stretches and home care exercise. Delina also practices affective touch therapy. When her children were born she marveled at the sedative affects of this type of slow gentle massage. Affective touch therapy optimally stimulates c-tactile afferent nerves through effleurage and nerve stroking techniques. C-tactile afferent nerve stimulation has been shown to lower anxiety, decrease heart rate, increase pain thresholds, and release oxytocin and serotonin. Affective touch massage therapy is most beneficial for patients whose primary goal is relaxation and stress reduction.
