The Pittsburg Rotary Club was honored to host Karen Maines, 2023-2024 District 5830 Governor, as the program speaker at its November 8th meeting. Maines (right) is pictured with Pittsburg Rotarians Roni Arias (President Elect), Carolyn Franks (Past District Governor) and Angela Saucier (President). Maines, who is a member of the Greggton Rotary Club in Longview, praised the Pittsburg Rotary for exceeding its goals in the previous year and challenged them to keep raising the bar for service and donations. Maines then asked Rotarians to share why they love being part of the organization. General themes that emerged from their accounts were a sense of camaraderie and an opportunity to serve the community. The Pittsburg Rotary Club meets at noon on Wednesdays at First Baptist Church Pittsburg. Anyone who is interested in joining is invited to attend a meeting to learn more about Rotary or you can visit www.rotary.org.

Lanny Brenner (center) presented to the Pittsburg Rotary Club last week and discussed the work done by the organization known locally as The Shelter Workshop. The purpose of this organization is to assist those who are mentally or physically handicapped and help them feel loved and needed, and give them a sense of purpose and importance.
The Workshop is working to get out in the community more, and is also trying to raise funds to continue their work.

Clinton McCoy and Donna Russel of Carter BloodCare visited the Pittsburg Rotary Club on August 23. McCoy, a long-time Rotarian, explained the fact that Carter BloodCare works to make sure that each hospital they service in the Northeast Texas region is supplied by blood from the local community. He also described the Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC) as a means of ensuring a supply of life-saving blood is always on hand in participating facilities across the U.S. in case of a disaster. The Rotary Club of Pittsburg is in the planning stages of partnering with Carter BloodCare and UT Health of Pittsburg to bring a blood drive to Pittsburg. More details to follow in the future.

Courtesy of Betty Lanning - We really appreciated hearing from Veteran Ridley Briggs last week as he told us about joining the Veteran Honor Flight to Washington DC this spring.
Mr. Briggs was a jet fighter pilot and spent three years of active service during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Briggs expressed his appreciation for everyone's kindness, the care and attention shown to him and the other veterans on their trip, and the uniqueness of the fact that his son came along as his personal attendant, and his granddaughter, an employee of Southwest Airlines, was given special permission to work that flight. Thus three generations of Briggs (and Aggies) were on the Honor Flight to DC.
