Fiona Update! 🩷
Many of you may remember that just over a month ago, Fiona was spayed. During the surgery it was discovered she had developed Hydrometra. This is a condition where her uterus had become filled with fluid, so much so that her uterus weighed over 1 kilo! The spay surgery was curative and the vet let us know her recovery would likely be long and difficult. Fiona had other plans - she came back to her foster home feeling so much better, and went straight back to eating and flopping like nothing had happened!
Since then, Fiona has blossomed into a wonderful, loving rabbit. Where before she was in constant pain and would sometimes bite or be aggressive, now all she wants is to snuggle with her foster family and get endless pets. She loves to be brushed and is even brave enough to jump up on the couch! She is a social bunny that always wants to be where the people are and loves spending her days flopping or cuddling.
Fiona has come such a long way and it’s amazing to see her get a new lease on life after being dumped in the woods and then ending up on a euthanasia list at a shelter in Quebec. Her second chance was made possible thanks to our wonderful donors, both of Fiona’s foster homes, and the bunny community who have encouraged her since day one.
This sweet girl is ready for the next step in her new life - a forever family! You can apply to adopt her at www.rabbitrescue.ca
Butterscotch hopes everyone had a wonderful Halloween!!
She still needs a foster home... you can foster or adopt her at www.rabbitrescue.ca
(PS the costume is just reating on top of her)
Nutbrown would like to wish everyone a very happy Halloween.
Nutty says, remember to keep all candy and especially chocolate away from your pets as they can be toxic, cause blockages or stasis! Remember that there is a pet poison control line if you need.
Keep your cats and dogs while away from the door to prevent anything from running out today when trick-or-treaters arrive.
Be safe & stay soft (thats from Nutty.. cause he’s the softest!)
Our small wobbly girl has a name! Suggested by one of our geneour donors: Diamond - after the first woman neurologist that published that the brain can change and improve with enrichment what is now called neuroplasticity
Diamond was just at the vet, and while there she was giving the vet kisses!! This is a very sweet litlte bunny!
Seems unlikely to be inner or middle ear infection and the vet has taken her off antibioicis.
She is continuing with Panacur in case it is EC, although its unlikely to be the cause.
Saying on pain medication for another week, but does not seem painful!
She estimates she is about 8-12 months, and while she is on the thin side, she is not likely to get much bigger, other than gaining a bit of weight.
She is in great shape, clearly can groom herself, and keep herself clean! Has good teeth. On her neuro exam, she can feel everything, can right her toes, seems to know when they are folding over etc. All great news!
We are doing full blood work to ensure this is not an issue caused by liver, kidney or electrolite issues.
So what has caused these issues? We do not know. We cant rule out some sort of head truama, or perhaps she was every born this way. The important thing is that her quality of life is good right now and she is not suffering. She would need a home who can offer lots of love and care and support where and when she needs it. Her temp foster says she loves to be held. .. perhaps it makes her feel more secure.
She will have a r/c in a few weeks, and if still stable, we can vaccinate her for RHDV, and discuss her getting spayed.
Doing a CT would only be for “knoweldge” sakes and nothing would change in treatment, and it there is a very high probablity that the CT would not show us antyhing. MRI would be prefered, but not aware of any clinic here that does that, and since she is so small we may not get answers even with that.
So this is probably the best news we could have gotten. While its frustating we don’t know a way to fix her, she is stable and happy.
Good morning from our wobbly girl!
She gives kisses & loves cuddles!

WHAT is Giving Tuesday and HOW can ww make your donation double?
Giving Tuesday is a global movement where everyone tries to do some GOOD!
It’s the idea that every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to contribute towards making the world a better place.
For charities around the world, it is a day focused on raising funds – for us, so that we can save the lives of rabbits at most risk.
Giving Tues really is a special day for Rabbit Rescue, as its our biggest fundraiser of the year. Without donors for GT, we would not be able to keep taking rabbits in.
This GT, we are looking for Matching Donors that can donate $100+ in advance for our Matching Fund.
Then, on the day of GT, we will aim to get as many donation as we can to match them, and everyone’s donation essentially doubles!
It’s the perfect time of year to help!
The money goes towards spays, neuters, exams, vaccines, blood work, xrays, ultrasounds, surgeries etc!
Without the help from our amazing donors on GT, we would not be able to save all of the lives that we do.
‼️‼️ WE ARE CURRENTLY AT LESS THAN 25% of our matching fund compared to last year.
This fund is essential in making giving Tuesday a successful fundraising day for the bunnies‼️‼️
You can donate at www.rabbitrescue.ca/donate OR by EMT: [email protected]
When you do, be sure to tell me that its for our Matching Fund for GT!
So excited to make this day a big success for the bunnies with your help!
Endless Thanks.

Coping the info from my last post below for anyone thats missed it. Thank you!
While we are still raising funds for Birdie, we were able to find a foster home for the neuro bunny I posted about earlier this week.
Every day she was supposed to be euthanized, I begged for a little more time. Sadly her time was up yesterday (Monday) at 4:30pm and at 4:28 we received an email that someone wanted to foster her! I was able to get the euthanization paused for a bit longer while sorting out details so see if we could make it work.
Thankfully we now have a foster that can take her in mid Nov, and a temp foster that can take her until that time.
Every time I post urgent buns, people always ask if donations will help save them. And every time, I say NO, do not donate, What we need is a foster home. For the first time, it’s the opposite. We have a foster ready to go and now we need funds to take this bunny in and give her a second chance at life. The shelter is holding off on euthanizing her and we need raise some funds! We have no idea NO idea what her costs could be. She may need; CT scan, xrays, ultrasound, blood work, medication (for sure!), exams and many vet visits with supportive care. We are fundraising so that we can take her in and provide her with the urgent medical care she requires.
People often pledge to donate but then don’t follow through, so this is our CALL TO ACTION right now to help save this bunny.
Saving a bunny takes a village and right now this bunny needs THIS village to save her.
When you donate, please send a name suggestion as well and we will choose a name from our donors.
We always strive to save as many lives as possible, but cant do it without your urgent support and help.
Donations are tax deductible. You can donate at www.rabbitrescue.ca/donate or by EMT to [email protected]
Donation link is also in our IG bio
For your donation, you will receive a special certificate of her thank you for your support!
Lets save her together!

Thank you! 💕 Senior Birdie is greatful for the support.
Here is an update on Birdie!
She did very well during her dental today. The vet found that both her 1st and 2nd teeth on the left and right side were a little bit mobile and had a small amount of pus. So that means another 5 weeks of antibiotics (which we were not expecting).
She had her molars filed so hopefully that helps want to eat more as well.
In addition, the dental xrays showed something very unusual.
She has some sort of calcification in her neck above her spine. You can see it from C1-C4, but is most inflamed by C1 & C2.
We cant say what it is for sure, the vet said perhaps an old abscess, or maybe from arthritis as she is a senior and at her age that would not be surprising.
She will need to go back in 5 weeks for sedation and a recheck. Until then her foster will get a raised bowl which may make it easier for her to get food, and we are going to try scattering some pellets on the ground too, to see what works best for her. Anything so that she has to flex her neck LESS to eat, may help her.
We currently have raised $635 for her, and while that’s great and I am SO appreciative, Im still wondering how the heck we are going to raise enough funds for her bill. We are also looking at taking in a high needs medical one, which makes no sense when we cant even raise funds for the ones we have. 😬
All this to say, please donate to Birdie so we can get her the care she desperately needs, and then we can look at taking in another urgent one that will be very expensive as well.
ALL the bunnies say thank you & send big hops your way!
You can donate at www.rabbitrescue.ca/donate ❤️
We are 27% of the way there for Birdies vet bills.
She is out of surgery & I will post an update as soon as I have a moment.

Today is a big day for Birdie and we need your help. (Plus special bonus when you donate today!!)
She has required a lot of medical care in the last month. It started with her vaccine, and then shortly after she was at the vet twice as she was not eating as much. Both her and her mate Shadow are seniors and are both on long term medications to help them feel better in their older age.
Birdie and Shadow were was back at the vet 2 weeks ago. Shadow had an exam, SQ fluids and was put on medication to make him more comfortable. It was discovered that Bridie has dental disease and an URI. She has been treated with antibiotics and her sneezing and URI has been getting better. She has been waiting to recover more from her URI, but today is her BIG DAY! She was dropped off early this morning for her dental procedure, which we hope makes her feel better so she can start eating again! Her foster has been monitoring her weight daily and feeding CC daily as well. Please send good wishes for our old gal, Birdie for a smooth procedure and quick recovery… and that she starts eating better on her own again soon!
Its been a difficult year for fundraising. So many of us are struggling with our own bills while the costs of life continue to rise. We appreciate any donation to help us cover these large bills. If you cant donate but can share our post, we appreciate it!
The 2 exams from Sept, plus the vet bill from Oct 18th and todays estimate comes to $1,743.48
With rabbits constantly at the vet for emergencies, spay/neuters, vaccines, etc, these 2 lovely bunnies could sure use your help today.
Lets work together to help raise the thermometer for Birdie! Ill update in stories through the day how we are doing.
As a thank you for your donation to help, I will email you an adorable, Shadow & Birdie wallpaper for your phone!

Noah came to Rabbit Rescue from a shelter in Quebec where he was scheduled to be euthanized due to overcrowding. While his past remains a mystery, it’s likely that, like many other rabbits, he was abandoned outside when his family no longer wanted him. Fortunately, he was rescued and is now adjusting well in his foster home.
At first Noah can be a bit shy, but once he feels comfortable with his humans, his true personality shines through. He’s incredibly smart - he even outperformed his foster siblings by solving a treat puzzle in just 20 seconds! He has also mastered the trick of sitting up for treats and now eagerly stands whenever his foster mom enters the room, anticipating yummy rewards.
Noah is a kind and thoughtful bunny. When he wants to play, he’ll bring his slinky over or roll his ball towards his foster mom, inviting her to join in. After treats or when he’s in a playful mood, he may even give your nose a little lick as a thank-you.
Noah has impeccable litter habits and is very particular about his litter box, often seen tidying it up throughout the day. He also takes great care of his toys, ensuring that his slinky and ball are always in their designated spots whenever they’re moved. According to his foster mom, Noah is the best roommate anyone could ask for. He keeps his area neat, is considerate of his humans, and remains quiet at night while they sleep.
This sweet bunny is sure to bring joy and laughter to any home!
