Kai Gronberg (he/him), is a Vancouver-based fiddle performer & educator. With a decorated competition resume (2-time finalist at the Canadian Grand Masters, 3-time Provincial Champion), and having performed at various festivals and events across North America (2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, Seattle's Northwest Folklife), Kai harnesses his intense passion and love for the fiddle by being a highly active collaborator, music teacher, and community leader. Kai frequents the local folk scene, performing with many peers at various local venues (Wolf & Hound Irish Pub, SoFar Sounds, The Heatley), and frequents jam sessions across the city. Kai lends his musical prowess as a recording artist, finding himself in a diverse range of musical endeavours. Kai teaches full-time as a private music instructor, and is also co-founder and director of the Open Door Fiddlers - a group session/lesson aimed to bring both Youth & Adults together with the aim of improving their musicianship, all while building a strong community. This is a song we performed at the Toronto Congress Centre last night. There was 2000 in attendance!! A big deal for us as it’s our first real live appearance.
Special thx to Jon, our sound engineer. He made our sound pretty epic. And a big thank you to Anderson College for believing in us. As for the band, I’m just over the moon with their professionalism and creativity.
It was also our first appearance with Violinist, Lia. She has really proven to be a Messenger indeed. Josh Smiley, our piano man kept us in time and in check. He’s a seasoned pro with very cool tattoos. The smooth and sultry vocals of Gloria kept the audience wanting more. Survivin is a song we can all relate to on so many levels. Our friends in the Ukraine. Natural disaster victims. You name it, the world is spinning out of control. This song encapsulates that very struggle, and our need to survive. Our goal is very simple, find new listeners and real followers. There is a message there. Gloria is writing music far beyond her years, and I’m so happy to watch her evolve and an artist. And to be a part of it is personally special to me. Oh, and the Toronto Congress Centre was dope! Major venue.
