Pausinc.ca We are woodworkers. We are furniture makers. We are a small group of carpenters and designers who share a love of innovative design.
Balancing time-worn, traditional carpentry techniques with cutting-edge processes, materials and contemporary design, we create custom furniture and millwork that is fresh, beautiful and built to last. Minimizing the environmental impact of our work is central to our ethos as builders and designers. We use wood salvaged from local barns, historic city buildings and trees that may otherwise be disposed of. This gives a life, and depth to our pieces that can’t be simulated.
Designed by Alison Milne Design and fabricated by Paus Inc. All cabinets and drawer insides are built from maple plywood. The drawer fronts and doors are CNC milled MDF finished with a low VOC water based lacquer.
The Brenlo poplar crown was finished prior to install, with the same material as the doors, to ensure a 100% colour match

These two kids bedrooms have been designed in collaboration with the client and Judith Taylor Design. All cabinetry is sprayed MDF, colour matched to clients sample. The black door pulls in the boys bedroom are custom welded hot rolled steel with a textured clear coat.
Beds are "off the shelf" by others.

Dear friends and family,
This is very close to our heart. Our little shop helper Boss is sick and is in need of a pricey surgery which his original owner can't afford. He has issues with his spine and if left untreated he could potentially be paralized for the rest of his life. Anything helps. PLEASE HELP
And please share
Many thanks friends

The CIBC AVENTURA vending machine is an interactive installation to be used by CIBC AVENTURA credit card holders. Participants are able to walk up to the machine, interact with it and get a gift such as an IPad, headphones or a GPS. The vending machine was designed in collaboration with downtown agency FUSE and fabricated from start to finish in our shop.
The installation took place at the Toronto Pearson airport for the duration of 4 days in March 2016.
A video commercial will follow so stay tuned.
Thanks again for this Jason. Great work! Was great having you guys in the shop!

Once again we have collaborated with Stacklab , Rethink and Eightlines to create a fridge for Molson Canadian that is a little bit different.
The Slap shot Fridge is fairly similar to the Anthem Fridge that we engineered and fabricated for Canada Day in summer 2014. Although, this time we have reinforced the fridge door as well as the housing, which hold the target and the electronics, with Kevlar to make sure it will withstand slap shots.
The target is operated by a laser trap hidden inside.
If you shoot the puck in the target a horn will go off and the door will open automatically.
Here is a short video on how the Slap Shot Fridge works. Keep your eyes open for the actual Molson commercial!
We designed and built this shelving unit to hide the pantry and powder room door at the same time creating a simple yet slick book shelf. We tied everything into the existing kitchen by keeping the height of the base and continuing the line of the upper cabinets. The unit is made out of satin white sprayed MDF, white oak and brushed steel.

“Sing O Canada To Open Fridge” invites the cheery text on the big glossy red fridge. This is Molson's O Canada Beer Fridge. You may stumble across it anywhere in this wide country of ours. In the street, at a park, waiting quietly around a corner, any old day of the week. Push the button, wait for the music and the lights to begin and sing O Canada from start to finish to unlock the prize within – a cold batch of Molson Canadian.
In collaboration with Rethink Communications, and STACKLAB, we engineered and fabricated the Molson Canadian O Canada Beer Fridge in our workshop at Paus+Grun. Between our three companies and Molson, We sketched, re-skeched, rendered and mocked-up, until everything was perfect, and we were ready to bring The Molson O Canada Beer Fridge to life. This photo album shows how we built it from start to finish. Enjoy!

We engineered and fabricated a 13' tall letter "d" to be used as an interactive marketing installation, part of Aeroplan's "Distinction" campaign. The brainchild of The Media Merchants and Cossette Montreal, the "d" features a large touch display and 3D camera with which participants are photographed, digitally placed in to a vacation destination on screen as well as broadcast on to the surrounding billboards. A printer within the "d" ejects a postcard of the distinctive portrait for participants to take away as a memento.
We fabricated the "d" by cutting it's curved components on a CNC machine, giving it form with flexible "wiggle-board" and cladding it in white High Pressure Laminate (HPL). The "d" had its first run at Yonge and Dundas Square in Toronto on September 4th, 2013, and was a great success.
Special Thanks to our partner in fabrication STACKLAB
We built this custom shelving and cabinetry for Post Architecture. We incorporated a variety of different materials that come together to make it eclectic and textured. The black spray lacquered drawer fronts and sliding steel cabinet doors meanwhile give it a slick feel. The shelving is original-sawn reclaimed pine on custom hot-rolled steel gables. The stereo cabinet fronts are built from barn boards that we blackened with a roofing torch and satin finished. There is a TV going where the King is currently throned, which will be covered by a steel screen on a nifty lo-tech pulley system that we rigged-up in our shop.
We build these rolling Barn Doors from reclaimed wood and incorporate salvaged decorative elements like embossed metal as well as antique forged rolling hardware. They are made to order. We like to involve our clients in the design process as much as possible. Recently, one of our clients wanted to have something special made for her newly renovated downtown home. She wanted it to remind her of the place where she grew up. We took a drive north in to the country and met her at the place where she was raised. We gathered some wood and rusted iron hardware while we talked and took in the air. Back in our shop we built a rolling barn door for her home using weathered boards salvaged from the old barn on her family farm.
IIDEX Canada, ideaicious.com, and the City of Toronto brought together a group of local designers to create original pieces for the first annual IIDEX Woodshop. We are very happy to have been included in the project. IIDEX Woodshop brought us together to create original prototypes that utilize Toronto's surplus of Ash wood. As many are aware, Ash trees in North America are being devastated by the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive species of beetle. "Keela" a bent Ash wood coffee table, is our contribution to this initiative.
Keela is built using exclusively Ash with no fasteners or foreign materials, just solid woodwork joinery. The lower curved plane is steam bent in our shop and the finish is hand-rubbed oil
