Our Mission: To address and prevent specific problems faced by women who have been emotionally and physically abused or traumatized by domestic violence by providing counselling, workshops, seminars and other supportive services.
Hum-WE welcome Regional Councillor Ward 4 Milton and .league Naeem Tariq founder of EOSCL League in Milton joining us as our new directors on board. Stress Management and Resilience-Mental health workshop
The workshop offered a crucial opportunity for participants to explore effective strategies for
coping with life's challenges. Led by a licensed mental health professional, the session engaged
women in interactive discussions and mindfulness exercises aimed at fostering emotional
well-being. Through guided techniques like deep breathing, journaling, and group sharing,
attendees learned practical tools to manage stress and build resilience in their daily lives.
The supportive environment encouraged open dialogue about personal experiences, allowing
participants to connect and uplift one another. As they left the workshop, many felt a renewed
sense of hope and empowerment, equipped with valuable skills to navigate their journeys
toward healing and stability.
Legal Clinic at Hum-WE with Ali Shaikh
The legal clinic at the women’s shelter provided a vital resource for residents seeking guidance
and support in navigating their legal challenges. Organized in partnership with a compassionate
family lawyer, the clinic offered a safe space for women to discuss their concerns about custody,
divorce, and domestic violence issues. With empathy and understanding, the lawyer addressed
individual situations, empowering attendees with knowledge about their rights and options.
This initiative not only helped to demystify the legal process but also fostered a sense of
community and solidarity, reinforcing the shelter's commitment to supporting women's
empowerment and independence.
Medium of expression-Art Workshop
Art workshop conducted at Hum-WE, a vibrant celebration of creativity and healing, designed
specifically for women and children seeking refuge and empowerment.
Laughter and chatter filled the room as mothers and children collaborated on colorful canvases,
transforming their experiences into visual masterpieces.
This nurturing environment fostered connection and resilience, allowing the participants to
rediscover their voices and find joy in the process of creation.
As the workshop ended, the walls of the shelter were adorned with their artwork, a testament to
their strength and a reminder of the beauty that can emerge from challenging circumstances.
Hum-WE is hiring for an Administrative Assistant.
Role on a fixed term contract of 19 months starting Sept' 2024.
Hybrid work location and exposure to non profit work
environment is desirable. The person shall assist with arranging seminars, workshops and prepare funding proposals, research material for reports, briefs, events and website content.
