Modern neuroscience explains how many mind-body practices work. We have so much knowledge about the nervous system and how it can be shaped by neuroplasticity, for better or worse. Unfortunately, this knowledge is not common. This video describes one nervous system 'hack' you can do right now to feel better! Just a few days left to register for "Befriend Your Nervous System"! Bird Dog Pose Modifications for COVID-19 recovery or anyone!
Bird dog pose is recommended by @John.Hopkins.Medicine in “Bouncing Back from COVID-19: Your Guide to Restoring Movement.” Cross body movements help strengthen the nervous system. Bird dog pose builds balance, core strength, & strengthens the weightbearing muscles and joints. This yoga pose requires a certain amount of core strength, and ability to bear weight on the wrists & knees. This video shows modifications that can allow a person to achieve the benefits of this pose, while honouring their body’s needs. The modifications also provide a way to progress to a more challenging version of the pose as you get stronger.

I'm wearing purple today for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Every hour, five girls or women are killed by someone in their family. Rates of violence, abuse by a partner and sexual harrassment has increased since the pandemic, and are higher for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour. Trans women are also affected. We all have a role in speaking out about it. @unwomen #InternationalDayForTheEliminationOfViolenceAgainstWomen

Pelvic muscles are protective and contract in response to a perceived threat. Just like a guard who never got a break from duty, pelvic floor muscles that are constantly tensed become tired and don't function well! Pain, incontinence, issues with sexual, bladder and bowel functioning can result. Pelvic floor physiotherapy, along with strategies to downregulate the nervous system, can help relieve tension and symptoms. Learn some of these mind-body techniques in my upcoming Yoga for Pelvic Wellness workshop!
A happier New Year to all! Here's a way to be kind to yourself today: set an intention instead of a resolution!
This is one of my favourite ways to strengthen the feet & ankles & work on balance at the same time. You can add challenge by doing goal post (cactus) arms or raising the arms overhead. Try choosing a focal point & breathing deeply to help keep your balance! Please let me know if you try this & how it goes!
