Action Optimist- adventure beach cleaning with Optimist dinghies

Environmental plastic is killing the oceans. Our precious coastlines and oceans, home to entire ecosystems and essential for the sustainability of life itself, have been polluted at all depths by the waste of modern life, a tragic consequence of our thoughtless drive for an ever more convenient and disposable lifestyle. Plastic waste is everywhere, even in the remote corners where people do not often go, blown in by wind and tide. Awareness has grown; the problem is being tackled by many people around the world in different ways.

But for the remote difficult places, we need Optimists.

Optimists are people whose minds habitually jump to solutions. They skill up, enjoy a challenge and are ready for adventure.

Optimists are also a class of junior sailing dinghy, competitively sailed by children aged 5-15 - forming the entry point for the sport of sailing around the world. Optimist sailors build their personal connection with the ocean environment from an early age. Knowledgable about wind, tides and currents, appreciative of the water upon which they play, they are primed to become the ocean stewards of the future.
