Earlier this week I said I’d be sharing some of my own go-to’s for managing afternoon slumps. While there a number of useful options, I find that the above are consistently the most impactful remedies to bouts of fatigue, sluggishness, and low energy.

When’s the last time you downed a whole glass of water?

How long have you been looking at a screen?

Have you tried closing your eyes for 5-10min in silence? (Or in the form of a 15-20min power nap?)

How often do you break up your day and breathe in some fresh air?

Would love to hear if you too find these useful.
.. and likely, because you were scrolling when you came across this, you could use at least one of the above to right now:)

Afternoon slump, a dip in energy often between 12 and 3p. Sleepiness, tired or sore eyes, fatigue, or just plain feeling ready for the day to be over...

Do you experience any of the above?

Science tells us this is fairly normal and possibly even necessary, though if not addressed appropriately can become worse and seriously impact productivity, well-being, and much more.

So.. if you experience this let me know below.

If you experience this AND you have remedies, would love to hear them. I’ll be sharing some of my own remedies later this week.

How much do you work on a laptop?

Laptops are inherently non-ergonomic. What you gain in portability, you lose in comfort.

Why?
Because the screen and keyboard cannot both be in the right places at the same time.

Monitors should be at eye level, while keyboards should be level or slightly lower than the elbow.

Most often the laptop screen is too low which causes you to look downward for long periods. This can lead to strain in the neck, shoulders, and if it leads to slouching, can effect you all the way down to the low back and hips.

For a quick and easy fix, I use a wireless keyboard and mouse AND I elevate my laptop so the screen is at the right height. These accessories fit easily into my lunch bag and save my neck and back when working on-the-go.

Even dogs are attracted to Topo’s natural features and they are a great reminder to break from the screen and soak in some time to stay fresh in the workday.
