Since its inception in 2008, The Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada has had considerable impact on our Avrum Burg; the 2012 Awardee was Senator (retired Lt. Gen.)

The Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada was formed in 2008 and has had considerable impact on our society in Manitoba. Since its inception, October 2nd (the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi) has been declared as "Mahatma Gandhi Day" through a Provincial Declaration each year. Every year the Mahatma Gandhi Centre recognizes people who have served in the Community in their field. For the Year 2023 we welcome suggestions those who can be considered for the Award.

The selected person will be recognized and awarded at this year’s upcoming Mahatma Gandhi Centre Gala sometime in end September or beginning of October.

We are sad to announce the passing away of Dr. K. Dakshinamurti - founder of Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada, at the age of 94 years. Dr. Dak was widely known across Canada for his Human Rights Advocacy.

Our community has lost a noble soul and a strong voice for Human Rights. The Mahatma Gandhi Centre Of Canada promises to continue promoting Human Rights and the Centre's vision as Dr. Dak would have wanted to do so.

Truth and Reconciliation

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

The Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada encourages learning about the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation and continue with the conversation to walk together.

We invite residents of Winnipeg to attend and celebrate the principles of Truth, Non-violence, and equality. In today's world, each of us has to uphold strongly our shared values of empowering Human Rights.
