We were fortunate to have Donna Samson, area awards liaison, visiting our local group to present Payton with her Canada Cord award. She also presented certificates of appreciation to the Guiders who were in attendance. Thank you Donna, it was nice having you here.

Important message - please share if you can:

Dear Community,

It has been an honour and we had great times leading the Girl Guide program in 100 Mile House. Unfortunately, after many years of commitment, including during covid, we are unable to continue volunteering. Therefore, we are in urgent need of at least two leaders for the program to continue running in our Community. We are fortunate to have recieved amazing donations in equipment, including camping gear, and our bank account is healthy. We would love to pass this on to a new leadership that can carry on with providing this great program.

If you are able to volunteer, please send us a message through this page or via email at: [email protected]

Thank you for your consideration

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us. Thank you

The 100 Mile Girl Guides Troop is in danger of folding without new leadership.

The group currently consists of 30 youths including nine Embers, five Pathfinders, 14 Girl Guides and two Rangers with several volunteer leaders. Despite community support and enthusiasm Bernice Enns, the outgoing district chair for the Girls Guides of Canada South Cariboo District, said that they need at least two unit leaders to step up to lead the girls next year. If no one does she said the group will become inactive.

"It's a program that is suited for some children just like hockey, scouting or any of those things. Hopefully, the parents that have children who want to be involved can step up and take a leadership role," Enns said. "We've found over the last few years, actually, that people have just not been able to commit. All we really need is two unit leaders committed and they can open a unit of whatever age group they want or a multi-age group and keep guiding in 100 Mile."

A couple of weeks ago, one of the local conservation officers did a presentation on wildlife safety. There was an excellent slide show, with samples of various animal pelts as well as molds of skulls available for examination. It was interactive in the form of questions and sharing of personal experiences, which kept us all involved: big thanks to our presenter.

We were lucky to attend a presentation by West Fraser employees about women in forestry — specifically, their careers in silviculture and reforestation. It was very informative with activities in the surrounding wooded area. A big thanks to the presenters who definitely conveyed their love and enjoyment of their work.

Thompson Nicolas Area winter Camp in Wells Grey Park held at the TRU research and education centre February 2-4. - Part 1

5 Pathfinders and 2 adults participated from our South Cariboo unit with a total of 23 Pathfinders and Rangers from Thompson Nicola Area plus leaders taking part.

Activities included x-country skiing, snowshoeing, avalanche search and rescue training, outdoor cooking, night games, campfire, sight seeing at Helmcken Falls.

It was a great opportunity for meeting other youth and leaders, building friendships, and learning and developing skills in a winter environment.
