What is the NADA protocol? ๐ซ The NADA Protocol, short for the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association Protocol, has a rich history dating back to the 1970s. It was developed by Dr. Michael Smith, a physician working in the South Bronx of New York City, as a community-based approach to address substance abuse and addiction. Originally designed to support recovery from addiction, the protocol gained recognition for its effectiveness in reducing withdrawal symptoms, cravings, and stress.
Over time, the NADA Protocol expanded beyond addiction treatment to include mental health support, trauma recovery, and overall wellness. It became widely adopted in various settings, including addiction treatment centers, prisons, disaster relief efforts, and community health programs.
The five ear acupuncture points used in the protocol were selected for their ability to calm the mind, alleviate anxiety, and promote relaxation. Today, the NADA Protocol is recognized as a valuable adjunct therapy alongside conventional treatments, offering holistic support for individuals on their journey towards healing and wellbeing.
๐ฑ As we enter the season of renewal and growth, let's explore the key highlights of the Wood Element in Chinese Medicine. Spring is the time symbolized by the Wood Element, associated with the Liver and Gallbladder organs. The Liver, often referred to as the โGeneralโ, oversees the smooth movement of Qi, Blood, and manages emotional regulation, while the Gallbladder aids in decision-making and bile excretion.
โฏ๏ธ During this transition from Yin to Yang, emotions such as anger and injustice may surface, reflecting the Wood element's energy of growth and justice. The Liver's manifestation in the eyes emphasizes the importance of clarity during this period. Imagine shedding the heaviness of the Yin seasons, akin to a seed emerging from the soil to thrive above ground. Engaging with nature, particularly trees, and intentional movement such as yoga supports the smooth flow of Qi, vital for liver health. Expressing unresolved emotions through writing can be liberating, allowing for the release of stagnated feelings of anger or injustice. Through acupuncture, the Liver responds profoundly to treatment, aiding in emotional and physical balance.
๐ฟAs we observe nature's resilience in Spring, let's remember our innate capacity for growth and change. Just like the sapling breaking through the soil, we too are destined to flourish and transform our surroundings.

Hello there! Iโm thrilled to connect with you. Allow me to introduce myself - My name is Heather, and Iโve been dedicated to the art of massage for over 5 years. I graduated from Makami College in Calgary, Alberta, as a 3000-hour Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). During my time in Calgary, I had the pleasure of providing treatments at a bustling prenatal focused acupuncture/chiropractic clinic and gained valuable experience in luxury spas.
Iโm passionate about continuous learning and always expanding my treatment capabilities. Currently, Iโm immersed in the world of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, studying at Pacific Rim College in Victoria, BC. I will be graduating in the summer of 2024 (this year!) I anticipate fulfilling my clinical and examination requirements, enabling me to offer registered acupuncture services by late 2024. Having personally experienced the transformative effects of acupuncture on both my physical and mental well-being, I decided to learn how I can share this approach with others.
When it comes to patient care, I draw upon my resourcefulness and diverse experiences to tailor specific treatments that cater to individual needs. Alongside acupuncture and massage, I seamlessly integrate various techniques such as cupping therapy and Gua Sha to enhance the overall therapeutic experience. My process involves addressing underlying tissues and systems that require attention. Each treatment incorporates a stress-relieving component to ensure maximal efficacy, and I strive for each patient to conclude the treatment with a renewed sense of self.
Outside of my professional life, I lead an active lifestyle, engaging in activities like dancing, hiking, and cycling. I love to read, cook, crochet, and travel. My love for the outdoors and movement is what led me to pursue a career in holistic health and fuels my passion for assisting others in leading healthy and fulfilled lives. I offer mobile massage in the Victoria area Mondays, Tuesdays and select Saturdays. I look forward to the opportunity to support you on your wellness journey!

๐ฒ Savoring the nourishing goodness of Kombu Broth for my Miso Soup! ๐ฑ Did you know, according to Chinese Medicine, miso provides a wealth of benefits like aiding digestion and boosting immunity? โจ In a glass jar, combine 4 cups filtered water with 3 pieces of kombu and dried shiitake mushrooms. Let it sit overnight, then drop contents of your jar into a pot and put on medium high heat to simmer. Just before it boils, remove your kelp pieces to avoid a bitter flavour. Serve as is, or take it a step further and make into a simple miso soup ๐ฅฃ โฌ๏ธ See full recipe below!
โช๏ธ4 cups finished kombu broth
โช๏ธ4 tablespoons of miso paste (I love - so many flavours to choose from!)
โช๏ธ 2 green onions, minced
โช๏ธ Optional: cubed silken tofu, wakame dried seaweed, tamari to taste
