Coffee For Gamers by Gamers
In 2014 at a convention in Syracuse, New York, Brad met his now good friend Tom. Tom had started a horror themed coffee company, Deadly Grounds, just a few years prior. Brad knew he wanted to get involved and a year later started Deadly Grounds Coffee Canada and would handle all things Deadly north of the border. Fast forward a few years and Deadly Grounds is now in all provinces and territories, and has a cafe in Courtice, Ontario.
It was in the spring of 2018 that Brad came up with the concept of a gamer line of coffee. It was something he had always had in the back of his head, being an avid gamer himself, and with Deadly Grounds ticking along nicely he mentioned to Kt that he wanted to start moving on what is now 8-Bit Beans, and here we are!
We launched the coffee line at FanExpo Canada 2018 with our friend Victor Lucas. We actually partnered on a coffee with Victor; Espresso Playground, and he joined us at FanExpo that year. A couple of months later we attended EGLX, Canada’s largest video gaming convention, and the coffee was a huge hit. Gamers liked the idea of having an alternative to energy drinks, and we were ready to offer them coffee that was out of this world!
As with Deadly Grounds, the idea was always there to eventually have a brick and mortar location. I don’t think we expected things to happen just a year later, but with the perfect location coming available, work on 8-Bit Beans Cafe and Gaming Lounge began. Bar arcades were coming in to fashion with locations like Tilt in Toronto and Revival Brewcade in Calgary, but like everything else we do, we had to put OUR spin on a bar arcade. How about a Cafe Arcade? We have our own coffee line, it would be a shame to just focus on the bar and arcade aspect. So unlike most locations like ours that open in the evening, 8-Bit would be open early and all day serving up delicious gaming and retro themed items like our Funky Kong Mocha, Icarus Hot Dog and Tetrimino Nachos.
