Here’s something I’ve been working on lately:

Building my confidence as a business owner.

I don’t know about anyone else, but sometimes I get into this negative head space of not being good enough, not knowing enough, and not doing enough. I know it’s not true, and it’s usually because I'm feeling overwhelmed or stressed about other things. But sometimes, I can get caught up in those negative thoughts and it’s hard to get out of them.

I’ve been trying to get more clarity in my business by deciding exactly what services I want to offer, what support I want to give my clients, and what direction I want this business to go in. When these are clear, I can create a plan to make it happen.
Getting clarity and building my confidence seems like an ongoing task of never-ending reflection and re-evaluation of what’s going on in my business, but I know it’s worth it.

Does it make anyone else happy that January 1st falls on a Monday? Or is it just me?

A new week, a new month, and a new year.

But, not a new me....

Listen, I’m not a big fan of the whole “new year, new me” kind of thing. I hate the pressure of creating big goals and starting them on January 1st, just because it's a day.

The reality is that my kids are still home from school this week, and I’ll be doing the balancing act of mom-life and work-life. So in between meetings, snack-fetching and water-getting, there won't be any new me-ing.

Instead, I'll take some time to review the goals we had for 2023 and where we ended up with them. I want to celebrate our successes and work on our need-improvements. I really want to take my time to review these without feeling the stress, pressure, or overwhelm just because it's January 1st.

So, if you have already set your goals, share them so I can cheer you on! If you’re like me and waiting until there’s some peace and quiet, let me know what you’re doing this week instead!

Here’s to strong coffee, outside play, and early bedtimes so I can finally get some work done!

We made it!! We've made it to the final month!
But before we finish off the year, I have some questions for you:

- Did you achieve your 2023 goals?

Depending on the nature of your business, it might be a really busy time of year for you, but it's still important to take some time over the course of the month to reflect on your goals and plans for next year.

Here are some great questions to ask yourself:

🌟 Did my business achieve what I wanted it to achieve this year?
🌟 What can I do differently in my business moving forward?
🌟 What do I want the business to look like next year?
🌟 Where do I see my business this time next year?

These are the questions you need to ask yourself as you reflect on this year and plan new goals for the new year!

Being an entrepreneur is never an easy task.
There are ups and downs, wins and struggles, crushing goals and changing paths. But each year I continue to do this is another year I’m continuing to learn more. I wanted to focus on a better work/life balance and this year my goals were:

➡️ to learn how to prioritize my work better, focusing on the most important tasks to finish first.
➡️ to learn how to use chunks of time to work more efficiently (because as a mom of three, I only have so many chunks of time).
➡️ to learn how to prepare things at night to make my days run more smoothly (but let’s be real, this one is a work in progress).
➡️ to learn how to set boundaries in my business. I'm not the best at enforcing boundaries, but I know how to set them.
➡️ to learn how to give myself grace, both in my professional life and my personal life. This one has been a game-changer for me.

I told myself that once the kids went back to school in September, I was going to get organized and stay organized, like for REAL this time.

…. But that didn’t happen.

It’s something I struggle to be consistent with. Maybe it’s because I don’t make it a priority or because I live with three kids who don’t care about my organizational strategies. If my Pinterest account was my motivation, I’d be Queen Organization, but most days, I’m just like “S.O.S.”

If my house was like my business, this wouldn’t be a problem. Because when it comes to business, I’m like A++ organized! I credit most of my organizational skills to the tools we use, the systems we have in place, and the team that lovingly nags me. In business, these are 5 systems we love to use to stay organized:

1. Asana – it’s my favourite online workspace that helps me stay organized with clients and tasks that need to be completed. Our team can assign tasks to each other and set due dates. Asana allows me to check in with any task to see its progress.

2. Airtable – lets me visually see and organize social media posts for Kim & Co and for all our clients too. Each member of our team has access to each client's base so we can create, review, and edit as needed. Graphics, links, and hashtags can all be added as well. This means I can see exactly how content will be scheduled for each month.

3. Office 365 - I can access it from anywhere and at any time from my computer or mobile device when I’m on the go or when I’m lying in bed and remember something important.

4. Google Drive – If you know, you know. Google Drive allows us to create, share, review, and edit all in one space. You can also see a history of any revisions that have been done before and who did it. It’s another great way the Kim & Co Team can access content, as well as the client.

5. Paper and Pen – There is nothing quite as satisfying as taking a pen and crossing something off your to-do list. Nothing keeps me as organized as a good old-fashioned pen and paper. However, it is less effective in terms of sharing with the team or with clients.

I have a very relatable question for you...

Who feels overwhelmed??

This time of year is always stressful for us as business owners. Supporting our clients as they prepare for holiday launches and shopping makes it busy. I mean, it’s a good problem to have, so I’m not complaining! But then you add in holiday shopping for kids, teachers, parents, and everyone else. Plus, all the personal ends we wrap up at the end of the year, it is just plain ol’ busy as heck!

When I feel like I'm getting too close to the edge, on the brink of overwhelm, I practice brain dumping. This allows me to get all the thoughts in my head, out of my head and develop a plan of action to do all the things.

Here are 5 easy steps to brain dumping:
1. Write everything that's in your brain on a large piece of paper or whiteboard (this goes for business things AND personal things). Get those thoughts out of your brain.

2. Now that those thoughts are on paper, they become tasks. Break those tasks down a little further - what do you NEED to do, what do you WANT to do, what can WAIT?

3. Delegate. What can be done by someone else? What tasks need to be done by you?

4. Now prioritize that list based on the steps above.

5. Start. Start with ONE task. It's that simple. And crossing it off your list will feel SOOOOO good! I promise!
