As hundreds of thousands of students across Ontario are this week participating in the OCSTA sponsored Catholic Education Week promotion, it’s fitting that the outstanding educator and musician who created the first Catholic Education Week song 15 years ago and a dozen more since then - Nancy Bodsworth-Boss of the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board- was presented with the 2024 OCSTA Special Award in recognition of her inspirational contributions to Catholic Education. Catholic Education Week is an annual event celebrated in May across our 29 Ontario Catholic School Boards. In 2024, Catholic Education Week is set to occur from May 5 - 10. The overarching theme for this year is "We are Called to Love," with daily sub-themes as follows:

Monday: As people of hope
Tuesday: As people of faith
Wednesday: As people of mercy
Thursday: As people of justice
Friday: As people of joy

Congratulations to Trustee and Chair of the Sudbury Catholic Schools Michael Bellmore who was elected President of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association at the 94th Annual General Meeting.

Keynote Speaker Bishop Gerard Bergie examined the Conference theme and the calling of Catholic Education (The Promise) today.

In these difficult times Catholic Education is called to lead the way. The role of Catholic Education acknowledges the search for God in the heart of each student.

Catholic Education - must always be rooted in Christ and Christ is Love.

Fittingly this year’s Catholic Education Week theme is We are Called to Love. “Love is focusing on the other…love those around us”.
