Are the economics of hand-knitting changing? As wool, cashmere, and even 100% cotton clothing disappears from retail racks, could making our own clothes once again be a money-saving - or at least an accessibility - activity?

Join us this month as Stephanie Erp discusses recent trends and reports from mainstream fashion, share observations from the point of view of a local yarn shop owner, and give an overview of natural and man-made fibres with an eye towards their environmental impact and their longevity. Stephanie is a co-owner of a lovely yarn shop in Montreal called, Espace Tricot. You may remember Stephanie as the adjudicator of the KWKG show in 2023.

Meeting is on Tuesday May 14th at 7:00pm.

Did you know that Sally Melville our founding member helped start the K-W Knitters’ Guild in 1986. She knew that she had tapped into something powerful when 140 people showed up for the first meeting. The KWKG Guild, which is the largest in Canada, “benefits from her enthusiasm and energy and in large part it bears her stamp,” said fellow knitter Debbie New. The Guild’s Sally Melville Award has become a yearly tradition and this year we will be donating to one of 3 deserving local fibre arts non profits. Come out to our April meeting to vote on your fav!

Our Story

In October 1986, a group of knitters gathered together to form the Guild. The love of knitting continues and new members are always welcome.

The Guild meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month from September to May at First United Church, located at 16 William Street West in Waterloo, Ontario. The room is wheel chair accessible and there is free parking in the Waterloo Town Square parking lot (please leave the church parking lot open for cars with disabled registrations only).

Meetings usually involve a presentation by a guest speaker, a ‘show & tell’ of members’ projects, business announcements, and social time to visit each other, the library, the ‘show & tell’ items, the raffle table, and the guest speaker’s items. Meetings are a perfect time to get help with any difficulties you are experiencing with your own projects.
