In the Woods Study Days

In the Woods Study Days

Learning Days: to build community and relationship, while learning about the world around us.

"He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither." Psalm 1:3

Our hope is that those attending will experience how the skies proclaim and the heavens declare, and as a result will be as a tree planted by streams of water - refreshed, renewed, full of life and love for others.

Outdoor Sensory Diet Activities - The OT Toolbox 17/03/2022

If you've ever attended one of our Sensory Awareness Training afternoons, you will have heard about Sensory Tool Boxes.

Here is a great article about OUTDOOR sensory diet activities!

These activities are so great for anyone! They keep your brain on it's toes - get the pun?!?! 😍

Outdoor Sensory Diet Activities - The OT Toolbox We’ve been talking a lot about sensory diets here on The OT Toolbox recently. Do you have a child with an IPP that includes goals like:
- walking on uneven ground
- being able to work in a group
- being comfortable in new spaces
- increasing core strength & balance
- vestibular & proprioceptive system training and awareness?

The forest is the perfect place to naturally work on these goals. Pop us a message if you would like to join in a group day. Aides & therapists are welcome!

We will be partnering with some amazing Nature & Forest Programs to help your children have a great day in nature and meet some curriculum goals at the same time!

Our hope is that children and their parents can enjoy these Forest Days on our special piece of land, and build community with one another, while exploring, appreciating and learning about the land around them.

We lead these nature days as a gift to those around us, because we have felt so blessed to be able to enjoy this little piece of the Ghost River Valley and want to share it with others.

Even on the cooler winter days, the forest is a rejuvenating place to be and it inspires fun works of art on natural canvas. These would make some festive charcuterie boards, don't you think? 🌲🌳

More fun we've been having! Lean-to shelters, nature-inspired lacing wood slices (sneaking in some fun pincer grasp practice!), and textured landscape painting using "gold" accents for lighting angles. :)

Some of the fun we've been having lately! Wickiup shelters, one-stick fire building using ferro rods, and landscape painting!

Why the name "The River"? Our community retreat day name lies in Psalm 1:1-3 "He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither."

12/09/2021

PM to join in. Activities will change weekly, lots of options for everyone to choose from!

Thanks everyone for helping to spread the word about this fun learning community. As many of you know, with my background in pediatric neuropsychology, I am VERY passionate about kids having community, and being outside moving their bodies and learning about creation, and therefore our Creator. I see them all as being critical to not only balanced mental health and learning, but essentially learning about our own body, mind and spirit - created in His image.

Our kids are so excited to make some new friends and learn in our "backyard".
