Here is some information to understand how some of us operate, and continue to develop our own economies, while creating self sufficiency.

The difference in laws, on reserve and off reserve. Now it’s time our laws are recognized for its territories.

1. **First Nations Sovereign Law vs. Provincial Law:** First Nations in countries like Canada have the right to self-governance, which means they can enact laws to govern their own people and territories. This sovereignty allows them to manage affairs such as education,cannabis/tobacoo trade, health, and justice within their communities.

Provincial laws, on the other hand, are enacted by provincial governments and apply to all residents within a province, including First Nations. However, First Nations laws can take precedence on their lands under certain conditions, based on treaties, agreements, land code with the principle of Aboriginal rights recognized by the constitution of the country.

2. **Sovereign Laws and International (Indian) Law:** The term "Indian law" can refer to the body of law that relates to Indigenous peoples in countries like the United States, where it governs the relationship between the federal government, the states, and Indigenous tribes. Sovereign laws of First Nations or tribes are internal laws enacted by those communities. International law, including agreements like the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), provides a framework for recognizing the rights of indigenous peoples globally, including their right to self-determination and autonomy in matters relating to their internal and local affairs.

3. **Tax Sovereignty, Banking, Cannabis, and To***co Regulation:** Many First Nations are exploring tax sovereignty as a way to generate revenue and support their governance. This can include levying taxes within their territories on goods such as cannabis and to***co. The regulation of these areas allows First Nations to control and benefit from economic activities on their lands, creating opportunities for self-sufficiency and economic development.

4. **Historical Treaties and Modern Agreements:** The history of treaties between First Nations and colonial governments (and later, national governments) is complex. These treaties often involved land cessions, trade rights, and the recognition of sovereignty in exchange for promises from colonial or national governments. Today, there is a movement towards modern treaties and agreements that acknowledge historical injustices and aim to provide a more equitable basis for nation-to-nation relationships, including economic partnerships and territorial recognition.

5. **Modern Transportation and Trade:** Modern challenges for First Nations include integrating traditional trading practices with contemporary global trade and transportation networks. This includes the need to modernize infrastructure, legal agreements, and partnerships to facilitate trade and economic development while respecting territorial rights and environmental considerations.

6. **Territorial Recognition Under International Law:** The recognition of territorial rights is critical for First Nations, especially in the context of natural resource management, land use, and environmental protection. International law, through instruments like UNDRIP, supports the recognition of these rights, including the requirement for free, prior, and informed consent for projects affecting Indigenous lands.

This is perfect example of what we need to do more of supporting our selves in all economics.
