Medications can greatly reduce blood sugar, but lifestyle changes remain a centerpiece of treatment.
Lifestyle modifications for those with an A1c of 7.0 include the following:
Increase exercise
Reduce calories
Monitor carbohydrates
Limit alcohol
Stop smoking
Lose weight
Alleviate stress
Skip dessert.
Ditch the fast food. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Meditate. Changing a few habits can make a difference and help ensure your blood sugar stays under control.
One way to keep sugar level down is to do the following. I did it and it dropped mine down significantly:
1. For breakfast eat mostly proteins and minor carbs. something like grilled chicken strips (or fish), boiled egg, and broccoli, and water is awesome.
2. For lunch snack mildly on peanuts, almond nuts or less sugary fruits and water.
3. For dinner, you can have a light meal with low carb and protein. The protein helps your body repair itself too.
Sweetener can increase blood sugar.
I found that sometimes sweetners elevate blood sugar.
This happened 3 times to me, thanks to the continuous glucose monitor which detected a rise in blood sugar as soon as sweetener was used in a coffee.
If this happened to you, try to eliminate the sweetener.
This is because when sweetener is often used, it changes the balance of our gut bacteria causing cell to be resistant to insulin we produce leading to increased blood sugar.
This is mashed potatoes.
It has a Glycemic Index of 81.
Eating this alone will definitely raise your blood sugar.
Before you eat, start first with high fiber vegetable.
Then eat very little of potatoes or mashed potatoes.
Don't eat too much of this fruit.
Banana has a low Glycemic Index (51) but a High Glycemic Load (13). The impact on your blood sugar will be high.
A bowl of broccoli before any meal is an awesome way to reduce blood sugar due to the fiber content in the broccoli. Pair this with your choice of meat, low salt food and very small amount of carbs to help with fighting type 2 diabetes.
The right type of nuts can help reduce blood sugar to below 100.
Try to snack on almond nuts daily followed with water. Remember to avoid salted nuts.
Amazing variety of food for a type 2 diabetic person. Remember to limit banana consumption to maximum of 1 per day and drinks lots of water.
Inspiration to help in your wellness journey.
This is a true life story!
