The Canadian Rockies are near and dear to my heart. I do not work in hospitality, but I have lived in tourism destinations my entire life and work with many tourism and hospitality employers throughout BC and Alberta. I recognize the importance of our hospitality and tourism industry in Canada and the workers that show up to provide an exceptional visitor experience for our visitors. It is an industry that has long been overlooked by formal immigration programs in Canada, yet that is starting to change!
Excitedly, in 2022, Alberta alone saw $10.7 billion in tourism spending, representing an increase of $600 million from 2019 levels. In order to support this economic growth the province has launched a new immigration stream to attract a skilled workforce to the province’s tourism and hospitality industry.
This is great news for the hospitality and tourism industry in Alberta. With over 32 million visitors a year, being a multi-billion-dollar industry, it is time for programs to be tailored to these important workers who keep the industry running.
If you work in tourism and hospitality or run a business in a tourism destination in BC or Alberta, contact us today to talk about how we can help you address staffing shortages and assist current employees in gaining PR in Canada.
