Our Story

Digital Renaissance Editions publishes electronic scholarly editions of early English drama, from late medieval moralities and Tudor interludes through to the drama of the commercial London theatres, Civil War, Interregnum, and Restoration.

Inspired by the Internet Shakespeare Editions and using the same publication platform, editions will include photo-facsimiles (where available) and diplomatic transcriptions of early textual witnesses alongside a modern-spelling text with full critical apparatus (annotations, commentary, textual and contextual introductions). With its focus on producing peer-reviewed scholarly editions of plays by Shakespeare’s predecessors, contemporaries, and successors, the project is dedicated to expanding the range of early English drama available for study, teaching, and performance.
