Spare Time Home Design
Wife, Mom, Business Owner, and Employee...and, in my spare time, I do this! I make spaces beautiful and budget friendly - often using second hand treasures.
I love all things interior and home design - from refinishing furniture - to full home renos. I bought and flipped my first house in 2010 - I have been hooked ever since! I flipped my second house and built my third. I have renovated a large commercial space and a rental property - turned Air BnB. I love making spaces beautiful - especially on a budget and with second hand treasures.
These cuties are still for sale!
Changing up my colour scheme and they no longer match but they are basically brand new.
Selling for over $100 on Amazon. Will take $40. They are great quality. Pick up in Elmsdale.
Two pieces sold today ðð
I miss them already ð
it's kinda like breeding a dog....I couldnt do it because i would never want to give the puppies away!!! It's hard letting these pieces go... but I can't keep em' all ðĪŠ
Selling because having too many pieces of furniture is a real thing ð
If she had a name...I think it would be Gloria.

Phase 1 of the design change is getting the pieces I already have to 'fit' so I don't need to buy all new stuff ðð
... remember, I do budget friendly designs.
This bench was a chocolate brown leather. I painted it using this Fusion paint - Cashmere is the colour - purchased LilyPond Vintage in Elmsdale. Yes, you can paint leather with this product! I originally discovered this when I had wear on our leather couch that looked like dirt...and buying a new couch because it was bugging me seemed impractical. It worked amazing for that too!!! You can hardly notice the wear on the seat - try to spot it!
Livingroom transformation coming up....stay tuned. Prepping the space, and my husband (mentally) for another change to our space. Bye bye blue ð
..... anyone looking to buy some pretty curtains? They are stunning - French Country style linen - and just the wrong colour for my design. 2 panels. You can have them for $50 ð Amazon price is 118 right now.
A cute little Value Village find! Well, 'cute' may be a stretch. It was pretty nasty. But with a little help from Norah, we made this a really cute little table âšïļ
All it takes is a few of the 'right' decor pieces to make a space cozy ð
In this case, an old school step ladder that I found in the basement of a rental property we owned, an old wooden crate that my dad's friend was throwing away, a vase - corner shelf - picture - and a frame I picked up from the thrift store. I also bought the farm wall art from - because I love supporting local businesses - and it was too perfect to not buy!!
Need help making your spaces at work or home more cozy or modern on a budget? It's kinda my thing ðð
....note: my husband absolutely HATES the picture of the women in the oval frame ("Who is this woman and why is she on our wall", "having a stranger on the wa is weird"?) and this was the only place he would let me put her ðĪĢð... I think she's beautiful...it's all about compromise ð
I found a piece of wall art while I was thrifting. I loved the colour and details it had, but felt the mirror backing was a bit tacky.
A coat of white paint, some ð decor transfers and put it back together. It looks so good!!! Reminds me.of Italy ðŪðđ
Powder rooms like ours can be interesting to decorate. With the one long bare wall I found it tricky to find the right wall art to suit the space.
I had a bunch of random pieces (because I have a habit of picking up random decor at thrift stores and the Dollarama without a plan of what to do with them ð
)... I decided to put together a wall collage. It filled the space perfectly.
The peel and stick wallpaper was an Amazon find. The towel and toilet paper hangers (is that what they're called?) I found while cleaning junk out of my dad's sea-can ð I also found the copper container and the container for flowers in the sea-can. If your dad has a pile of junk sitting around...make sure you dig through for treasures ð
I love changing things up! I get bored of spaces and am always looking for a way to make - afforable - improvements.
Are you tired of any spaces in your home? I'm your gal is if you are looking for some ideas to change things up! âĻïļ
The majority of the changes I made here were with second hand items. I am a thrift store gal.
My phone camera ðĪģ broke...if you know me well, this shouldn't surprise you ðŦĪ so the pics aren't great.
I'm selling this pretty gal. It is painted with Country Chic Ou Lala (see pics) and has a cute wallpaper liner in drawers. I would love to keep it....but I literally keep buying, refinishing and keeping dressers...I need to stop the madness. ðĪŠ
Message me if you are interested. ðĐ·
It's perfect for a vintagelook in a little girls room ðĨ°
**update. Someone is coming by to look at this tomorrow.
My sister opened a laundromat business and was looking to give it a 70's vibe âïļðĐ·ðķ
I came across this old radio at Ricks Riches Thrift Store for $5 and knew it would be perfect!
I removed the old veneer and painted it her fav colour ð
This table is one of my favorite finds. It was a Value Village find and, although is was pretty beat up, it had great detail. It reminded me of our travels to Italy ðŪðđ
I had to do some patching because there were some dents that were more than 'distressing'. I painted with , did a pile of distressing to bring out the intricat designs, and did a clear coat. ðĪ
A kitchen makeover that only took a little wallpaper, a runner, and a fresh colour paint on my island.
I used Fusion Coal Black paint and distressed with a beeswax bar to get a vintage look. âĻïļ
This dresser was put out as garbage! So, I loaded it in the SUV and brought it home!
I peeled the old veneer off and painted it with and replaced the hardware.
I used a cool IOD transfer and this piece now serves as a toy box in my livingroom ððð
Who says toy storage can't be beautiful?!
I found this armoire at a yardsale. I loved the shape and saw the potential. It turned out just how I imagined - beautifully ð
I used the original hardware (because it was cute) and painted with . I used a beautiful peel and stick wallpaper on the back for a little extra âĻïļ
I love a great thrift store find - especially when I find a solid wood piece.
Painted with and decor transfers. This beauty is in my dining room ð·
I found this handsome grand piano table at the Habitat for Humanity Re-store. I was told it was from the 1800's and came from an old church in downtown Halifax, NS.
I took the castors off the legs and added new feet to raise the table to dining table height (grand piano tables are quite low).
I gave the table a deep clean and painted the legs with . I distressed the legs to show off the hand carved detail.
I left the table top as it was. I loved the naturally worn/vintage look. This dining table is in my dining room. So happy with this piece. ð―
I wanted a dresser with a mirror for my daughters bedroom. I found this beautiful vintage dresser on a yardsale site - it was just down the road from my house ð Meant to be ðĨ°
A coat of paint and some roses ðđ finished this piece perfectly ð
