🪶🌿 Today, on June 21, we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day! 🌿🪶
Let’s honor the unique history, heritage, diversity, and achievements of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada.
York Region is home to approximately 6,000 Indigenous peoples, including the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. Our region stands on the traditional territories of many First Nations, including the Chippewas of Georgina Island and the Mississaugas of the Credit.
At Sandgate Women’s Shelter, we stand with the Indigenous community in recognizing and celebrating the rich cultural legacy and contributions of Indigenous peoples.
Today, the Love Mercy Justice Ministry team of Richmond Hill Christian Community Church, and Richmond Hill Home Depot (Leslie/Elgin Mills store), came together to create a beautiful vegetable garden at Sandgate Women’s Shelter.
This incredible initiative will allow the women and children in our care to enjoy fresh produce right from our backyard. We are deeply grateful for the time and effort donated to build this wonderful garden.
