So, I'm really excited to share that our film A Letter From The Fathers will be screened at the Caribbean Tales Film Festival and the Essence Film Festival. You can enjoy this quick sneak peek of the film and look for more content.
A few months ago, I took up a challenge to produce my next film for a festival competition in the States. I told myself all you have to do was tell a meaningful story about my favourite topic (Fatherhood) and submit it to the festival. So thats what I did and it was great. I felt fulfilled and inspired by everyone involved. I even went back to my roots of editing the film myself because...well MONEY!
After completing the project, I began to share it with family and friends. I noticed something really interesting that was happening to each person who screened this film. They were moved by it. At first, I didn’t really understand what or why it was so moving to people, but I wanted to lean into this feeling. I knew what moments moved me, but I was curious about other perspectives.
So I decided to submit it to a few more festivals, and to my surprise, that same moving, authentic feeling of connection has continued to ring true with many festival programmers. I am still in a bit of shock.
I am happy to announce that my film A Letter From The Fathers II has been accepted into the Sweetish International Film Festival and the Love & Hope International Film Festival in Barcelona, Spain. As I patiently wait for more good news, it was important for me to celebrate every success in my journey.
Moral to the story, do what you love and do it with a deep sense of purpose. Find the joy in activating your gifts for the benefit of your community.
Peace!
Just so you know, it gets better from here. Keep smiling while the work is being done.
Thank you to for inviting me to participate in the Netflix-BANFF Diversity of Voices Initiative for 2024! I am extremely humbled to be included in this incredibly talented cohort.
I’m also excited to share that I will pitch one of my new projects at this year’s event. To all who are coming, I am eager to meet you there. Special thanks to all the partners who make this initiative possible Reelworld Screen Institute, Black Screen Office - Bureau de l’écran des Noirs, and Indigenous Screen Office.
Let’s keep building! .b.love
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
’Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

In every frame, every pose, and every shade, I carry an aura that’s undeniably vibrant and unapologetically bold. This isn’t just about a look; it’s about making a statement. A declaration that my black is not just a color—it’s a story, a journey, and a celebration.
Behind every look is a story of resilience, a vibe that’s infectious, and a beauty that doesn’t just conform but stands out, making waves.

So I’ve been reading this new book called Soundtracks - the surprising solution to overthinking by author and it’s changing my life. Often times as creatives we get in our heads and stay there by ourselves. Building complete conversations around why things won’t work or how what we create doesn’t matter.
This book helps with all of this thoughts. If you’re looking for a dope book check this one out. Also drop the title to a book you’re reading that you think in fire as well. I’ll add it to my list.
Some of my favourite stills from 2023.
Thank you so all the dope people who helped to make these a reality.

This is 40. God I thank you for everything.
This year has been such a fulfilling one. Don’t get me wrong it’s been hard all throughout but I’m 39 Turing 40 in a few more weeks and all I can think about is my journey to this point.
The kid who had such a tough time reading and writing now writing his own films. The non athletic brother who always wanted to find his place in the world.
Which leads me to what happened last week. I got the opportunity to visit my old high school slash secondary for a special project. It was every y’all. Meeting the kids, walking the halls, and seeing some of my old teachers made me feel so grateful for the opportunities given to me in those classrooms. I felt proud of being a Maltonite (if you n on now, you know). I had my first kiss in these halls, learned how to be an artist, made new friends, had many laughs, and some heavy moments. It wasn’t like Saved By The Bell but it was my version of it and I’m thankful I have these memories.
Here’s to all the amazing students, teachers, and community members who make up the Malton community and helped me get through high school. Your investments changed my life.

Thank for allowing me to capture your light. It was an incredible honour and hella fun.

Welcome to VIDEO II @ York University DAY 1! Excited to be a teacher.
Never look down on your humble beginnings. 10 years ago, I was a passionate independent filmmaker looking for ways to improve. So what did I do? I tried everything. I filmed mini-documentaries, parties, weddings, bar mitzvahs, and even funerals. Were they all topics I loved to capture? No, not at all, but it did two things for me. It taught me to trust the process of development. To keep sight of the life/career I was sharpening. Secondly, it taught me that people respond to stories, not just topics. Have you ever watched a movie or doc about something that you would normally skip over, but the story was so captivating you had to watch it? Yeah, that's the power of the story.
I actually learned another powerful skill, and that was the ability to do more with less. Now I believe in doing more with more, but sometimes you only have this luxury, and the project still needs to be completed. 10 years later, I look at the opportunities I have as a director and am astonished at how much has changed in my life. I am also amazed at the things that still have stayed the same. People want to work with passionate, creative, and collaborative individuals. People that can read the room and solve the problems that come up.
Every experience I have had in my professional life has allowed me not only to be better at stories, but leading and galvanizing people to create dope things.
