I love my work. My happy place is working closely with clients who are adore interior design, and want to improve and beautify their spaces.

After spending the past 8 years in window fashion sales, I’ve decided to be more self-directed and intentional in my work, doing what I love the most.

Recently I’ve embarked on a new shopkeeping adventure at Miss Sophie’s Decor here in Stratford on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This exceptional decor store is full of market flowers, framed art, candles, books, clothing, home textiles - lots to capture everyone’s . Plus it’s woman-owned by Jeanette, and it’s a local business. Yay!

Face-to-face interaction is where it’s at for me. Shop-keeping a few days a week at Miss Sophie’s Decor, and consulting with Sandy Cucci Design clients for in-home consults and small design projects, is where I’m presently happy and content.

Please drop by to say hello on Tuesdays or Thursdays, or contact me if you want to chat about home decorating and design.

Planning an upgrade for your space?

When home improvement is next on your list, but you’re not sure what type of expertise you need, here are some questions to ask yourself.

Is this a small or large project?

Will the project timeline stretch out for many months from start to finish, or is it a relatively short-term upgrade?

What’s my budget range?

Do I want to lead this project, or do I want to work with an expert who will handle the details?

Will this project involve applying for local construction permits, engaging an architect for drawings, employing various tradespeople?

Large-scale Projects $$$$$ can take many months to complete, have higher budgets, and require you to do your research. Appointing a local design company with a great reputation, knowledge about construction permits, and a roster of various skilled trades to help you with the levels of complexity for this type of job is a must. Potential professionals to hire would be Interior Designer, Architect, Licensed BCIN designer.

Shout-out! My go-to professional is Justine located in Stratford Ontario, for my projects - she’s knowledgeable, connected to many local professionals, always comes up with creative, beautiful, functional ideas, and is very kind and thoughtful to work with.

Mini-Medium Projects $$ require a shorter timeline, a more modest budget, and require a specific expertise, usually from Interior Decorators, Space Planners, Stylists, to refresh the space. These smaller projects can range from selecting new wall colour, improved furniture placement, or styling a space with accessories. For kitchen, bathroom and basement upgrades, floorpans are designed for pre-planning new layouts for clients, who can then hire tradespeople to complete the construction, or do the work themselves.

As a Certified Interior Decorator, I love working with my clients to freshen and elevate their spaces, so they can feel great pleasure while living in their space. If you wish to talk to me about a Mini-Medium Project, please click on my contact info.

Primary bedroom refresh! 🌿

Recently I had the pleasure of consulting with my client on her bedroom renovation. They took this bedroom right down to the studs - new floor, new ceiling and walls. Each item in this space was replaced, and now it looks and feels like a bright, fresh oasis for relaxation and rest. A completely new look.

Oh, and did I mention that we designed this room over video/ phone calls and email because she lives in another province? Working hard to find the right statement pieces, and to make it function well, we are both very happy with the end result.

What‘s your favourite part?

Many of you have asked me if these flowers are real 🌹🌸🌷

They are actually Real Touch flowers, and they’ll look this fresh and beautiful forever! The petals are so soft, and the colours are deep and vibrant.

You can see them (and touch them!) in person in Stratford at 17 Ontario St, by the courthouse. And give a follow on instagram or Facebook to stay in touch with new products at the shop.

Working as the Covers in-home window covering designer for the past 7 years, I’ve consulted in some fabulous spaces, designing beautiful custom draperies.

Please enjoy these bonus tips for planning gorgeous draperies, + pics of beautiful client draperies.

1. Choose timeless & classic fabric and pattern, and you will always love your window coverings

2. Plan the drapery length to hang floor to ceiling, and span wall-to-wall. With draperies hanging from a ceiling mounted rod, your eye travels from bottom to top - it’s so luxurious to look at. When the drapes are pulled across to cover the windows/wall, you see a whole section of fabulous draperies. To. die. for.

3. Keep the hardware minimal. Ornate finials and rods of yesteryear are in the rearview, and now we are using rods that have built-in endcaps, which have a minimal, less-fussy look. The draperies take centre-stage in the space, and the ceiling mounted rod is barely visible. I often specify a rod that is actually called the invisible system.

If you’re looking to complete your space with custom draperies, please contact me at Covers Canada. ([email protected]) I can assist you to design beautiful custom draperies, specifically sized for your windows. Covers draperies are made in local workrooms, offering check measure and install services as well, so you can relax and enjoy your gorgeous window coverings.

Have you ever asked yourself, how do I begin working with a decorator? 💡

Typically, new clients contact me via phone call or email to ask me about my services. They describe the scope of the project, and we discuss our initial meeting.

Projects range from one single consultation (which typically lasts up to 2 hours) to a whole room or floor design redo, with ongoing consultation and support from myself.

In-home consults are most helpful for the initial meetup if possible, as I can view the space, take photos, measurements and discuss potential ideas with my clients.

For ongoing projects, followup meetings can be done in person or by phone/video and tend to be shorter as we are discussing more specific design details. I utilize Pinterest, online shopping sites, floorplans and moodboards for comparing and selecting ideas and resources for the project.

Launching an update/renovation is daunting for most people. It can be hugely beneficial to understand the design direction, and plan the overall project beforehand with an expert who has a fresh-eyed view of the space.

Hiring a professional before a project is launched has helped my clients to have a beautiful, overall plan which gives them confidence to move ahead.

Here are some outcomes of projects that I’ve consulted for. If you wish to contact me, please find my information in my profile under Contact.

Happy designing!

The Tom Patterson Theatre is the last piece of our Lights On Stratford puzzle and we cannot wait for its official launch tonight! ✨

Because we’re so excited to see the Tom Patterson Theatre light up again tonight, we wanted to share a little easter egg from the lighting designer, Michael Walton:

“I started thinking of pieces of music that perhaps I could use as inspiration. After a lot of pacing around the building with my headphones on I decided to base my installation after the classic Pink Floyd album The Dark Side of Moon.”

That’s right, there’s a secret music component that goes along with the light display — the first 5 songs from The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd sync up with the light show on the Tom Patterson Theatre! Wondering how to experience the epic show of lights and music for yourself? Read below for instructions!

INSTRUCTIONS ▶️
Get The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd ready on your listening device, from the beginning of the album. At the beginning of each 17 minute display cycle, you will see darkness in the theatre for approximately 30 seconds. Right before the start of the light show you will see 2 big RED flashes, and then a WHITE flash. When you see the WHITE flash, hit PLAY on your listening device and get ready for an epic experience! 🎧🎶🤯🤩🙌

Why should I hire a decorator?

If this is a question you’ve asked yourself before, please enjoy …. ⤵️

Our living spaces tend to have “problem areas” that hinder homeowners when trying to make their homes function optimally, and look fabulous. Some common issues that clients have with their homes are as follows:

- what are the interior decor trends that can be embraced, and which trends should be avoided

- which paint colour(s) to select for the space

- it’s difficult to place furniture effectively due to unfortunate room layout and size

-where to stop and start new flooring

-how to place the furniture when there are many doorways in one room

-what type of lighting can be implemented to illuminate the room beautifully, and provide enough light

-how to effectively control natural light with window coverings for privacy, light filtering, and room darkening needs

These are only some of the things that a trained, professional, experienced decorator can discuss with clients, providing them with many creative, beautiful and effective solutions.

Decorators have lots of exposure to many ways of solving problem spaces, and they bring an outsider’s fresh perspective, which results in new ideas that the homeowner perhaps wasn’t able to come up with on their own.

Usually decorators charge by the hour for in-home consults, and it may take a couple of hours or more to fully talk about all of the issues in a space. It’s well worth the expense, when we look at all of the ideas and improvements that can be brought about with a conversation.

If you’d like to start a conversation, please feel free to contact me.

Happy decorating! 🌿

Designing a basement floor plan today for my clients 📐💡 🛋

I collaborate together with my clients using online resources such as Pinterest, Houzz, Etsy and Google to search images and inspiration. Oh, and usually a little bit of wayfair too! 🛍🛒

I start a project with a strong and functional floor plan layout and then move to the surfaces - walls, flooring, ceiling, countertops, cabinetry, to specify finishes or cladding styles 🪵 🧱

Lighting locations for receptacles and outlets need to be determined near the beginning of a project so the space is beautifully lit, and one can safely move throughout it. 💡

The last step is the most fun for me - the furniture, accessories and wall colour. I ❤️all of these things 🛋

Did you know that wall colour is the last decision to be made when completing a space? Everything else is available in very limited colour palettes, but paint colour choices are practically endless. For example, Benjamin Moore] has over 3500 paint colours to choose from. A well chosen paint colour will tie everything together and unify the space. It can also make your complexion look fantastic!

BTW, I also do paint colour consults - but more about that later.

What’s your fave part of the renovation process?

Benjamin Moore]
