Remembering Jack today.

In 2004 we had the privilege to "adopt" a Canadian Second World War Veteran, Jack Johnston. At 87 years old, Jack was struggling with diabetes and other health conditions. His second wife had passed five years earlier and despite visiting him often, it was obvious he needed someone or someplace to take care of him.

As any good friend would do, I helped him search for a new home. Turns out he moved in with us, thanks to my "king of a husband" who is open to supporting my generous humanitarian nature. He became Grandpa Jack to my young kids and easily integrated into our family.

Jack served in WWII as a radar technician. He didn't talk about it much. I would describe his feelings about the whole thing as profoundly proud and equally sad. Jack never forgot, it was in his eyes and deep in his soul, the pain of war.

What I believe,

☮️ Peace begins in our homes. By listening and acknowledging others ideas, thoughts, dreams, aspirations, needs and wants.

☮️ We modelled peace to our kids when we welcomed Jack to our family. We can model peace in our community when we stop and actually listen to understand each other without judgement.

☮️ We model peace in the world when we educate ourselves on the truth others endure, when we acknowledge the pain and do our best to help.

What is one thing you can do between now and next November 11 to advance peace in your world?

Meet Anthony , co-owner of Joe and Anthony’s Pizza. I wrote my new book, Small Business, Big Opportunity “Systematize Your Small Business, Create Personal Freedom, and Live the Entrepreneurial Dream” for entrepreneurs like him.

I am here in Flanders , New Jersey. It was past dinner and I was looking for a clean and safe place to eat that wasn’t a chain. The guy behind the counter looked suspiciously like an owner, big smile, knew everything about everything and eager to please .

What would it take for this business to be just as great without him having to be here at 8:45 at night? Shouldn’t he be home with his family? After five long years in business, surviving a pandemic, hiring, countless employees, and keeping the economy going, he deserves better!

If you own a small business, you also deserve better. Look for my book on Amazon, small business, big opportunity, let me know what you think. Pretty sure you’ll love it and will find the help you deserve to gain greater freedom and make more money.💰

2023 is the year to finish all the major projects I have started. Earning my brown belt last week gets me closer to one of those goals . My black belt has been on the wall at the taekwondo studio since before the pandemic. I want to earn the right to wear that belt. Lots of times, I don’t feel like going, often I can’t remember my form or I don’t break my boards, but I’m going to do this, I’m going to be a Blackbelt. Yes I can !

No matter your background or where you are in life, we all have limiting beliefs. They are the ideas or mantras we've learnt from our society and other people's fears. Things like "I'm not good enough", "No one will support me", or "I have to be perfect".

It turns out that those are completely, absolutely, without a doubt, 100% made up. They are as real as a bright pink elephant with a boa-constrictor for a trunk. Yet, they have a real-world impact that influences our outlook of ourselves and what we believe to be possible.

And the good news is (since these beliefs are made-up) we can change them. We can make up a better, supportive, kind narrative about ourselves. We can tell ourselves a different story that creates a positive, real-time impact.

Sometimes it's scary to make that change.

There is a part of us that clings to these ideas because the alternative is we say "I'm great" and then we inevitably mess up. So now we're just liars with a big ego, or even worse, it confirms we actually
aren't good enough. It feels safer to stay within our limiting beliefs because at least "I'm not good enough" is reliable. We can always meet that standard.

It's at times like these that we can turn to our community.

There are people out there who will get you. And these things that "aren't good enough", are actually our strengths. They are the things that make us unique and they are our biggest offer to the world.

Usually, they are the things that made us light up as kids, and our limiting beliefs have told us to squash them. When we change the story we tell ourselves, we open the door to the people we need most.

Who is an important person in your community? Tag them in this post 💙

What is Appreciative Inquiry? The Leadership Tool You Need! 24/01/2023

Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is an effective leadership tool. Appreciative Inquiry can be described as an affirmative approach to solving problems and generating positive change. AI is based on the premise that you can't solve problems by looking at the problem. Instead, you look only at what is good about what you already have and what is possible to create in the future.

Our Story

What was I thinking? At 31 I quit my job and started my first business. I was a single mom with no income , no child support and a mortgage to pay.

I could no longer live with the constraints of a boss telling me what to do, when to do it and always giving me sh*t when she made a mistake. I was their top seller and was working way too hard, was always away from my son, for way too little money.

This was taking us nowhere.

Building a successful business is hard. Fortunately I had some great advice along the way including direction from a well known business book called The E-Myth Revisited, Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About it by Michael E. Ge**er. Michael introduced me to the idea of systems.
