Need some Holiday gift ideas for kids with , , or needs? We've got you covered! For the next week we will be posting last-minute gift guides for each of these developmental areas, starting with SPEECH ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Our top 3 holiday gift ideas for speech are all great suggestions to get your sweet kiddos chatting! They provide play, encourage development, and support communication ๐Ÿงธ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿช€๐Ÿช

๐Ÿ‘‚ Sound Puzzles โ€“ Making the sound of what each puzzle piece represents while placing it properly on the board is a fun and unique way to reinforce early matching, vocabulary-building, object-sound associations, and requesting (have your child ask for the pieces by name) skills

๐Ÿ”  Magnetic Letters/Numbers โ€“ Children with speech/language delays are at a higher risk for problems with reading and writing later in life. Give them a head start by providing a fun way to learn about letters and numbers!

๐ŸŽด Language Cards โ€“ Watch children enjoy sorting and classifying as they find and match the three large photo cards in each category. It encourages sorting, categories, labeling objects, and identifying word meanings.

Additionally, try not to overload your child with lots of toys! Believe it or not, children can get overwhelmed with too many choices and can end up moving quickly from one toy to another, limiting their learning opportunities overall ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

As the final long weekend of summer quickly approaches, here are a few last-minute things for you to focus on with your children to set them up for success in the upcoming school year:

1. Talk to your child about their feelings - We already know how important SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) is and using this framework of self-awareness can begin at home.

2. Set intentions for the school year ahead - Try using a "focus word" each month and use this to start conversations at home! For example "What's one way you lived your word today, friendship?"

3. Schedule family time - Planned time together gives your child confidence that youโ€™re facing these new challenges together, and it provides a built-in time for them to come to you with any concerns as the school year goes on.

4. Create & settle into routines - This is especially important if your child is learning at home, which we all experienced during the pandemic. Working with your childโ€™s teachers to establish a similar routine means your child will be able to go through their day with less assistance from you.

5. Go school shopping - This can be the start of traditions but also makes preparing for the school year a ritual and can increase the excitement!

6. Include a note with their lunch - A simple, special touch letting your child know you are thinking of them ๐Ÿ’›

Take the pressure out of back-to-school season by following some of these tips and tricks! Let us know any others you recommend in the comments below โฌ‡๏ธ
