Hi! My name is Happy and I’m looking for a good home!

My name says it all. I’m young, I’m fun, and I love meeting new people. I can’t wait to go for walks around Calgary and meet all the neighbourhood friends and kids!

I am shy, but I have a positive outlook on life! I just need a couple of minutes to come out of my shell when you first meet me (treats and toys are welcome!). The world is all so new!

I love doggy friends and I’ve been friendly with cats but I also know how to keep boundaries. I would say that I’m sweet, gentle and calm. I would make a great friend to anyone with my adorable little personality, especially in a home with other dog friends! I do love to play with other pups! I truly can’t wait to experience the world with my new family.

P.S. I had never met Heidi Grace before or had my portrait taken in a studio with big flashing lights - but she told me I did great! She says I have a wonderful temperament and would make anyone a lovely companion. (She also said I’m a beautiful model…but I’m quite humble and I won’t let that go to my head ;) )

Gizmo’s mom says she especially loves his ears and it’s easy to see why! Popcorn-loving Gizmo weighed in at just 2.7kg (5.9 lbs)! We had his legacy session in the studio to keep this sweet senior warm and cozy.

“Chico has had such a huge impact on how I live my life. I have learned to live with joy and compassion, and truly live in the moment. He makes me smile every single day...and I will miss him so very much.”

Meet the adorable Chico, a sweet 13-year-old Maltese Shih Tzu mix. Just two days after celebrating his 13th birthday, he faced a sudden health challenge. A heart murmur, a mass on his lung, and a spot on his spleen left his mom uncertain about the time they had left together so we swiftly arranged a special Legacy portrait session for him.

Connie shares “I am so thankful for every day and every moment Chico has been in my life for the last 13 years. He has been the one constant in my life, with me through tears, traumas, and challenges, and laughter, joy and opportunities.”

I feel a deep sense of gratitude for having the opportunity to create endearing portraits of this precious little senior pup and his loving mom.

🎼 Dachshund through the snow.....

My name is Tuxedo - you can call me Tux! I’m a 3.5-month-old short-haired dachshund and my parent’s very first puppy! This is my beautiful little family - aren’t we adorable together in our matching black coats? 😉

My parents say I can be quite shy and awkward so they weren’t sure what to expect of me during our family portrait session - but I did GREAT! I had so much fun running around in the snow and even ran up to Heidi Grace and stuck my face in her camera a few times! 😁

Every morning I walk Mama to the door where she gives me a treat and says goodbye to go to work. Then I get to keep Papa company while he works until we go outside to play! I love my parents SO much! My parents tell me that they are very happy to have me because I bring joy and make their home feel complete. 💗

Does your dog like winter weather?

How cold is too cold for your dog? | Calgary Dog Health Knowing how cold is too cold for your dog as the temperature lowers is vital. Some breeds, like the Siberian Husky, Malamute, and Samoyed, are meant to withstand harsh temperatures, while others like the Chihuahua and Pitbull – not so much!

Meet Sweet Pete! This little guy is a 16-year-old Chihuahua mix who loves to play fetch! (yes - even in the snow!)

Pete’s mom adopted him from the City of Calgary Animal Services in 2009 when he was only 2 years old.

“I went to the city shelter looking for a puppy - there was a waiting list for all of them. The person helping me asked if I would be open to looking at a chihuahua who was found roaming the street and who had been in the shelter for some time. I was hesitant because I was sure I wanted a large dog and I was sure I wanted a puppy. But when Pete came out to greet me, I loved him instantly and knew he would come home with me.” 💗

These days, Pete is having some struggles living with dementia. Pete’s other mom gave her wife the gift of a legacy session as a very thoughtful Christmas gift! 🎄

We had a wonderful afternoon creating and capturing beautiful memories together and little Pete had a blast playing fetch in the snow!

I’m Zoe aka “Zo-Zo” and I’m a 12-year-old Labradoodle! I was born in Oregon, grew up in St. John’s, NL and even spent a year in Korea - but Calgary is my home now.

I’m quite energetic and excitable and I love to run in off-leash areas. I’m told that I run like a puppy - kind of bouncy like a rabbit, especially after I find a stick. My mom says I’m incredibly intelligent when it comes to interacting with humans but I can’t find a ball if it’s thrown above my head. :p

When my mom asks me do do a trick for a treat, I cycle through ALL the tricks I know after the one she asked for. I’m no fool… I know there’s more treats where that one came from! (Refer to the ‘incredibly intelligent’ comment above) ;)

Meet Daisy and Dobi! Their mom, Caroline, loves to support animal rescue charities and most recently she raised the most money for the Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundations' calendar contest!

“Daisy and Dobi came into my life through a friend working with A Dog's New Life rescue in Mexico. Daisy's owner could no longer keep her - and she had a litter of 9 puppies. Dobi had a horrific injury on his right shoulder, he was starving and he barely survived.

Now they love to play with each other and with toys! Daisy treats Dobi like he is her puppy, which makes me laugh and they both adore car rides and hiking in the mountains.
I’m thankful to them for bringing so much joy into my life and my mother's, and for being such great hiking partners.”

I’m Minnie and my Mom says I’m likely about 9 or 10 years old. I love to lay around all day long. I don't like to move too much and would prefer to sleep and go running in my dreams.
I love to lay outside. I love lying in the grass, on the deck, or the patio stones. I love to look up at the leaves blowing in the trees while I sniff at the wind. 🌾

My mom calls me her "office buddy" because she works long hours on her computer and I love to keep her company while she works. If I lay under her desk I also get pets! 😃
I used to be terrified of brooms and the vacuum, but my mom has taught me not to be afraid anymore. I have also learned if I go up to the vacuum and sniff it - I get pets! So I'm constantly getting in the way nowadays. 😉

Minnie’s Mom shares: “Minnie is the sweetest girl I've ever met. Her heart is so big and so welcoming. We share long hugs together, and I'll hold her paw while she sleeps. I wasn't looking for another dog when she came into my life, but I feel so grateful to have stumbled upon this beautiful lady. Minnie and I are best friends and her steadiness keeps me grounded.” 💗

Silver Springs Botanical Gardens

I’m Noah and I’m 11! I was adopted by my Mom from AARCS when I was just 9 weeks old. Mom calls me Angel, Angel Boy, Sweet Boy, Baby Boy, Sweet Angel Boy and the list goes on. (and then she gives me a bunch of kisses)

Until this year, the only indication of my age was my grey muzzle and eyebrows. I acted more like a pup, had endless energy, and loved to go-go-go! In February I started showing signs of physical issues and Mom says my decline was swift. The neurologist confirmed that I have neuromuscular disease accompanied by significant muscle loss. :(

Despite some difficulty with movement and coordination, I am still my happy self! When my mom tries to take my picture I always look away or start to move so the photos end up blurry. I don't like sitting still! So my Mom asked Heidi Grace to capture my “beautiful and unique spark” now - before a portrait session might become too much for me.

“Noah had a spectacular time at the portrait session! He loved sniffing around the park, the locations were close together, there was time for him to rest, and he was even able to run a little at the end of the session. I’m so glad I didn’t let my worries get in the way of a fantastic experience and wonderful memories! Being able to get legacy portraits done so quickly was also such a blessing. Seeing the artwork in person and getting to fully appreciate how gorgeous the photographs are - and how well you captured my babies - was so so special for me.” - Noah’s Mom.

Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society - AARCS

Hi! I’m Lumi, a one-year-old husky/shepherd/collie mix. My Papa adopted me from the Cochrane Humane Society when I was 8 months old.

Early on in life, I had a serious health condition that likely deterred others from adopting me because all they saw was the health condition and never recognized the amazing puppy battling it. I was fortunate to fall into Papa’s hands and win his heart over.

My siblings and I were known as the “Panda Puppies” at the shelter because we all looked like little pandas. Lumi was the name given to me by the good people who rescued me and was the name of a Panda in Finland. Papa thought it was very unique and fitting name for my personality so he kept it!

I love to run! (especially on my Uncle’s acreage with my doggy cousins!). Nothing makes me happier than having the freedom to run free! But when I’m not running - you can find me cuddling on the couch. ;)

“George is getting older, and I want to make sure I have beautiful keepsakes while he is still happy and healthy.” George’s mom, Jessica, shared with me.

“George was found by kids, wandering the streets outside of Calgary in September 2013. He made his way to Pawsitive Match Rescue with whom I had been volunteering as a foster home. As it happened, I was in between foster pups, and as soon as I saw his sad little face I knew I had to go get him! I picked him up and took him home and the rest is history. It was very clear that this dog was meant to be in our lives and he quickly became part of our family. It has been 10 years since we adopted George and we have never looked back.” 💗

“George is such a good boy. He does not like doing anything that would remotely get him in trouble and he is a rule follower. He loves his "stuff" (toys, beds, blankies) and takes care of them.”

After a recent health scare with my 6-year-old girl - it hit me hard that I've been spending all of my time creating pet portraits for my clients and have not put the same effort into my own dogs! 😥 Guilt set in so I took her out to capture some fun memories in the fall colours. I feel so relieved now and my new goal is to do this annually.

It was a great surprise that my mom brought my favourite toy to our outdoor session! 🐊
Normally I play around the house with my alligator- so it was extra special to play with it at the park!

Since I was rescued, our best guess is that I’m about 2 years old now. I looooove exercise - especially when my parents take me for walks. It was great fun to run around during my portrait session! 💨
Heidi Grace says I remind her of Falkor the Luck Dragon. I’m not sure who that is but if he’s cute - I’ll take it! 🥰

I’m Frankie! I was rescued in Mexico where my original name was Mushu, which is a dragon name but I am much too sweet for that - so I became Frankie! My nicknames are Frankles, Frankfurt and Guppy (I had untreated distemper as a puppy and my mouth has a tremor that looks like I am breathing like a little fishie). Aren’t I adorable? 🤗💗
