Laasya has been learning Bharatanatyam at Sampradaya Dance Academy under Guru Lata Pada and Guru Atri Nundy for more than six years. She began her journey, as a Bharatanatyam dancer, at age six with Guru Petra Heiz in Switzerland. As her family moved from India to Switzerland, and finally to Canada, she continued to pursue the art form to ensure that she was in touch with her culture. Laasya is eternally grateful to her parents for introducing her to Bharatanatyam. Their unconditional support motivated her to persist through the rigorous training for her arangetram over the past sixteen months.
Vaishnavi began her dance journey at Sampradaya at the age of four, and went on to successfully complete all six levels of examinations for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD), a leading professional dance certification organization based in the UK. She aspires to complete further certification and training with Sampradaya to eventually teach Bharathanatyam, and hopes to also become a company dancer.
Gearing up for an exciting weekend with Vaishnavi & Laasya as they step on stage to present their Arangetram, their first solo performance after years of training in Bharatanatyam at our academy.

Rest in Eternal Peace, Menaka ji.
Indian Classical Dance in Canada is what it is today, because of Menaka Thakkar's magnanimous work in the field that she began decades ago. Her legacy will live on and her work that paved the way , will outlast the incredible life she lived, devoted to the arts.
We are eternally grateful for her contribution that gave South Asian dance a home in Canada. To her dear family and friends and her most special dance family at Nrtyakala Academy of Indian Dance, we extend our deepest condolences.

duty of the people of this country. Any art form, whether dance, music or poetry is a direct
identification of one culture, our personality and who we are”.

for January 2022
One of the upsides of our needed shift towards online learning throughout the pandemic is learning how to use technology to our advantage. As we have worked on returning back to the studio, hybrid (in-person/online) classes have helped to ensure all students can continue to participate in the learning process.
Our studios are now open! We’ve taken all the precautionary measures to transition safely back to in-person classes. 😷All students have their temperature checked upon arrival at our studio and have designated spaces outlined in tape to ensure safe distance is maintained while dancing! Welcome back to the studio :)
