😔When our children do something that hurts someone else, we may be tempted to jump in and tell them: "Say you're sorry!"

In today's episode, we'll discuss why this isn't the most effective approach if we want them to understand the value of offering an authentic apology, accompanied by an action to rebuild the broken trust with the other person 🤝🔒👥

Make mornings peaceful for you and your child with ADHD 23/10/2024

⚠️Behaviour is communication!

If we're being honest, our children and students do things everyday that can be frustrating to us as the adult trying to manage the situation.

It's so important to remember, though, that behaviour truly is communication. When we learn to view those actions as information, we're better able to keep our overwhelm at bay and get more curious about what it is our child is trying to tell us.

Love Dr. Becky's visual: imagining our children's emotions as benches.

She really hits the nail on the head when she highlights the reality that we can rush them off that bench, making them feel ashamed of that emotion, or we can sit with them and help them work through it ❤️

Have a listen to this We Can Do Hard Things episode where Dr. Becky discusses this concept in more detail: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/131-how-to-raise-untamed-kids-with-dr-becky-kennedy/id1564530722?i=1000579533370

Make mornings peaceful for you and your child with ADHD 16/09/2024

Hello there parents of ADHD kiddos👋

What does your current morning routine look like with your child? Do you find yourself not wanting to start the day because you know that you’ll need to ask your child (at least) 25 times to put their socks on?

Does it feel like your child has a full agenda of important things to do between 6:00am and 7:00am and that none of those things have anything to do with getting out the door before the bus comes?

You are not alone, my friend! Mornings can be stressful and make you want to crawl right back in bed before the sun is even fully up.

The good news is that I’m going to give you 3 steps today that will help improve communication in your family, ensure that each member feels heard and motivate everyone to start the day off on a more positive foot.

Welcome parents! 👋

My name is Michelle Barbour and I'm a K-6 instructional resource teacher in St. John's, Newfoundland.

So many parents have asked me about how to best support their neurodiverse child from a social-emotional learning perspective.

Unfortunately, a lot of those parents have fallen into the (understandable) cycle of:

➡️ Child regularly engages in what is perceived as negative behaviour
➡️ Parent responds in frustration because, well, it's frustrating!
➡️ Life at home feels stressful for the whole family.

Sound familiar? Maybe you'd also like to add in that they are plenty of days when you walk on eggshells around your child because this cycle is just so exhausting.

I'm pleased to soon be offering courses and resources that are designed to help parents like you learn tried and proven strategies to interact with your child more effectively, so that you can experience more peace in your home ❤️
