Spotlight Post:

Last Thursday Westwood High School hosted their Westwood Trojan Athletics awards. Westwood recognized their student athletes across all sports and handed out hardware to the recipients.

We were delighted to hear that Capri MacQuarrie was won the MVP for Jr High Basketball. Coach Dalton was fortunate enough to be present at a number of her games. She displayed qualities of a leader and embodied what it meant to be a team player. Capri was heavily relied upon to led her team in statiscal categories and in ways not reflected on the box sheet.

Capri also won the Jr High Trojan award which is given to one student from grades 7-9. The recipient of this award is someone who is active in the community, a team player, coachable, who displays leadership qualities.

We personally know Capri on and off the court and can absolutely attest to the character she displays throughout all aspects of her life.

Additinally, Capri won the Trojan award for Jr High Volleyball!

We have had the pleasure of knowing Capri on and off the court for several years. We are proud that her hard work is recognized.

Congratulations Capri on your trifecta of recognition awards!!!

Ecole McTavish held their Athletics Awards last Thursday. The Mauraders gave out a ton of hardware, recognizing and celebrating athletics and kids achievements within their sports.

Coach Dalton was completely unaware of these Athletics awards. Due to schedule conflicts between the McTavish Awards ceremony and Court Kings Training on Thursday evening, Coach Dalton was not able to attend. Coach encouraged all members of the Jr. High Boys team he coached this year to attend to support their fellow students.

Coach was very pleased to get a text from Caleb with an update on who was selected for MVP (Most Valuable Player) and MIP (Most Improved Player).

We do not know who was involved with these selections or what they considered but the individuals were certainly deserving of their honor.

We are proud to say Caleb King took home Most Valuable Player. Caleb took a primary role on his Jr. High team (Grades 7-9) from day one, working hard and pushing his teammates. He was looked upon as a leader by his peers. Caleb was relied upon to be a point guard in all aspects of the role. He was the primary ball handler, he was responsible for distributing the ball to teammates, he was our floor general. As coaches we were pleased with his performance and growth this year.

We are proud to say Ian Thornton won the Most Improved Player award. This award went to a young man that took on his development seriously this year at practice, and in game situations. Ian’s work ethic was outstanding during practice. Ian made big strides in his game this year. Ian came with a dedication to self improvement and this served Ian and his team well. Ian played an integral role for his team this year and his improvement was often commented by coaches, parents and players alike. As coaches, we were impressed by Ian’s commitment and perseverance to personal development this year. This award is very much deserved.

Oddly enough, Caleb and Ian have played together for years. On basketball club house league teams. These two are no strangers to basketball. They have also taken advantage of free early morning basketball training sessions Coach King and Coach Powell did for any jr high student at Ecole McTavish after the school season ended.

Caleb and Ian played for their school this season and both have been back in the gym training with Court Kings in our first training season. Training for what awaits them next year.

Congratulations to these two young gentlemen and Congratulations to all the Athletes acknowledged at this event!

We are excited to debut some swag or merch as the kids call it these days. Both my boys asked me for T-shirts and hoodies when we had the logo created.

Upon starting training this spring, some kids in our program and their parents requested that we offer a T-shirt for sale.

Well we decided to get a few T-shirts made for our family and got a limited number of extras made that we will offer for sale.

All shirts for sale are black in color.

A very limited amount of Nike Dri-Fit adult shirts are available in limited sizes for $45 per T-shirt.

A limited amount of ATC ProSpun shirts are available in Adult sizes, for $25 per shirt.

A limited amount of ATC EuroSpun shirts are available in children’s sizes, for $25 per shirt.

Additionally, there are some more t-shirts coming an and a very limited quantity of hoodies will be available once they are received.

Depending on demand we may offer more in the fall as this is a trial run. Court Kings is not making any profit off the sale of garments.

Please contact us in person, email, or text to discuss snagging a shirt or hoodie as quantities are limited. Payment can be made via EMT or cash.

We would like to thank Bean & Bud Custom Designs for making this happen and being absolutely fabulous to deal with. Highly recommend this local business in

Of course, a special thanks to the best photographer Di Gnik, you rock!!!

A little introduction of who is behind Court Kings Basketball Training Inc.

Well, I’m Dalton King, a recently retired federal government employee. I’ve lived in Fort McMurray with my family for the last 10 years. I have been in The gyms here shortly after my arrival, either playing in the local men’s leagues, or volunteering with various youth basketball clubs that my sons played for. I have also coached this past year for both their school teams, grade 5/6 at Ecole Boreal and grade 7-9 Jr High Boys at Ecole McTavish.

I’m passionate about the game of basketball and enjoy giving back to kids through the sport that has given so much to me.

I played in High School and have played in men’s leagues in Newfoundland, British Columbia, and Alberta in the communities I lived in.

I coached high school girls in British Columbia for four years. Upon moving to Labrador I did some youth training and refereeing. Upon moving to Alberta, I got involved by volunteer coaching with a number of the local clubs that have operated here as my kids were playing in them. I have also volunteered coach at Composite High School, McTavish High School and Ecole Boreal.

Due to some recent developments, my children, like many others were left without training and playing opportunities which they had hoped to be doing this spring. After some discussion with my wife, kids and friends, I decided I should continuing doing what I have been for years, coach and mentor kids at the sport I love.

I created the name using the initials of my motivation for doing so, my sons. They both share the initials CK.

My goal is to help kids attain their goals in basketball. To improve their skills in all aspects of the game.

I have taken a number of the online training courses offered by the National Coaching Certificate Program. I will continue to take developmental training to further my knowledge and skills to position myself to help become a better coach and trainer for the kids I teach.

I believe under the proper coaches and trainers, the players can learn lessons that reach far beyond the court.

That’s a basic run down of who I am. I’m known to be long winded and maybe should have just put up photo of me and said “The loud bearded guy” like the kids know me as.

Cheers and hope to see you in the gym!!
