Kanku Dai
With 65 movements, Kankü Dai is the longest of all the Shotokan kata, requiring approximately one and a half minutes to perform. The kata includes blocks and counterattacks in response to attacks from eight supposed opponents. Master Itosu broke up the Kushanku kata (dai and sho) to create the five Heian kata for practice bt middle school students. As such, for those who have fully mastered the Heian kata Nos 1 through 5, Kushanku (Kanku) should prove fairly easy to learn. This kata, along with Bassai, are important kata for the Japan Karatedo Federation. Heian Godan - Peaceful mind level five.
Heian Godan features an assortment of advanced techniques befitting the final kata of the Heian series. It begins with an inside-to-outside block/reverse punch combination delivered from a back stance, followed by a transition to the water flow posture in a closed parallel stance. Heian Yondan - Peaceful mind level four.
The opening movement of Heian Yondan is similar to that of Heian Nidan except that the hands are open. Heian No.4, however, includes a greater number of kicking techniques, knife-hand blocks and back stances.
