A Word from the Minister
Today, at a time when Earth is experiencing unprecedented upheaval and when we face truly extraordinary environmental challenges, technological developments have never been more crucial and determinant for us.

The Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques proudly supports the 4th Climate Change Technology Conference. This world-class event brings together specialists in a variety of fields, who are busy leveraging their expertise to fight climate change.

Québec has set an ambitious target for itself: Reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20% below 1990 levels by 2020. In order to achieve this goal, we have made the carbon market our leading tool in the strategy to fight climate change. Thanks to income from this market, which is paid into the Green Fund to support the measures set out in the 2013-2020 Climate Change Action Plan, our government can provide funding to local businesses in the transition to a low-carbon world. In all, some 3.3 billion dollars will be reinvested in the Québec economy between now and 2020 for the benefit of both businesses and individuals.

Research and innovation are among the fields on which we are counting. On the one hand, technological developments offer multiple promising and vital avenues for reducing our environmental footprint and making our people and our living environments more resilient to climate change. On the other, these advancements enable us to trace a new path and set the course of our society in the direction of tomorrow’s green and prosperous economy. They also help to re-launch the economy and create hi-tech jobs.

Today, by sharing our knowledge and developing our know-how together, we are building the world of tomorrow, a world that will be greener and more responsible for our children!

I am certain that this event will enable innovating ideas and new courses of action to emerge. Please accept my wishes for fruitful exchanges!

David Heurtel
Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment
and the Fight against Climate Change

We are grateful for the participation of the Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, the City of Montréal, and our many guest speakers and authors of technical papers and session presenters.

It is a duty for the engineering profession to contribute to finding solutions to problems created by a changing climate to which we are all subjected. CCTC 2015 is a unique opportunity to present engineering solutions in the context of a changing climate and its physical and sociological impacts.
