A dream fueled by a love for gin, a long-lasting friendship and an inherited, original 1947 gin recipe: Pickerings Gin At Summerhall Distillery, the first gin distillery in over 150 years in Edinburgh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

📖 The Story:
Matthew Gammel and Marcus Pickering were friends and business partners years before the idea of Summerhall Distillery and Pickering’s Gin was formed. They have backgrounds in engineering, furniture restoration and property renovation, all of which proved beneficial when they embarked on the adventure of building a distillery from scratch and engineering their perfectly smooth, award-winning gins.

Prior to starting Pickering’s Gin, Matt and Marcus noticed an empty space in the Summerhall Arts Venue that used to be used for animal kennels when it was the University Veterinary School. At about the same time, Marcus inherited an old 1947 gin recipe given to him by a friend of his late father. As inspiration would have it, they dreamt up the ambitious idea of starting their own distillery, despite having little knowledge on how to do so. This exciting idea became the catalyst that led them to where they are today selling their products across the globe with their dynamic team.

📖 About the Wine:
The 2021 Cirro “Single Vineyard” Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is produced by Marlborough-based winemaker David Tyney. Grapes are sourced from the home block situated in Renwick in the Wairau Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand. Traditional growing techniques were used to manage vine vigour and yield. This means the grape skins are thicker which improves vine health and increases flavour development.

🥂 Tasting Notes:
Brilliant and intense, showing purity of fresh, ambrosia apples, lime citrus and acacia blossoms fill the glass to overflowing. The purity and intensity of fresh fruit continues on to the palate, lingering freshness on the tongue, tingling the senses with vibrant sensations of purity and crispness.

1️⃣ Domaine de Cebene - Belle Lurette Faugères Organic 2018
"Il y a belle lurette" – a French saying referring to the old times – is where this wine derives its name and is a reference to the venerable age of the vines. The fruit is harvested from 70-100-year-old Carignan vines, supplemented with Grenache and Mourvèdre, all grown on stony schist soil of the estate. All varieties are vinified and aged in stainless steel to present a wine expressing the purity of its fruit and the influence of its region's unique terroir.

2️⃣ Domaine de Cebene - Felgaria Faugères Organic 2016
A Mouvedre dominant blend, supported by Syrah and Grenache, the Felgaria opens with exotic floral notes, strawberries, raspberries and subtle garrigue character. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with silky yet firm tannins to balance the concentrated black fruit, black pepper and spice.

Let's learn about the rich history of the prestigious Hungarian winery, Chateau Dereszla, who have an extensive range of dry, sparkling and sweet white wines.👇🇭🇺

Chateau Dereszla is steeped in rich history when the first mention of the name occurred in 1406 as a storage cellar of wines collected for tax levies for the then king of Hungary. The estate changed hands for many centuries as it moved from Hungarian to Turkish to Austrian rulers until 1945. After WW II, it became part of a Hungarian Cooperative.

At the turn of the century, in 2000, the estate was purchased by the French d’Aulan family who quickly modernized and streamlined production to create world-renowned wines. Under this French ownership, the Chateau achieved international recognition and became renowned for their Tokaji Aszu wines. Modernization continued the evolution of the estate and it reached an important milestone when, in 2016, it became once again under Hungarian ownership.

The Henye winery was opened as part of the Dereszla group and dry wines and sparkling wines were introduced into the portfolio. Chateau Dereszla is now a vibrant, multi-dimensional winery that continues to achieve high-quality and award-winning wines.

• Produce limited yields per hectare in order to fully maximize grape quality, production area and the terroir.⁣
• Grapes are grown without herbicides or pesticides.⁣
• Vineyards are hand-cut each year to ensure natural growth as opposed to using heavy machinery. ⁣
• They use their own indigenous yeasts naturally formed from the skins of the grapes they grow for fermentation.
• They reuse the byproducts from this fermentation to mix with cow manure to naturally create their own organic fertilizer known as ‘humus.’⁣
