It's been a while since I've broadcasted / posted here on DLD chat.
I hope you've all had a great holiday and cheered-in the new year in style!
Wow it's 2024! Where has these last few years gone!?
yeh...Right ... let's not go there.
You probably noticed it's be rather quiet on DLD lately.
Well you're right. I've been off-line a lot planning the future of DLD.
I have finally made some decisions after many months of reviewing and discussions with a few of my business mentors and friends in similar enterprises.
No doubt a change is needed.
Firstly because of all the changes with Meta/Facebook (they are not a small biz's friend) sadly small businesses are not getting the push / support as they once did 10-5 years ago. I saw this coming many years ago , no surprise.
Unless a small business spends 10's of $1000's in advertising on META , we don't stand a chance of survival. I simply can't compete with the Amazons, Temu's, Walmart of the world.
I have decided to go where there is a platform and a market that appreciates sustainable, up-cycled products. I looked / reviewed at so many it got to be stressful! Hosting ourown website on Shopify ... been there done that lost $1600 on design and hosting and no traction. We were a small fish in an ocean of millions of www.
The choice: ETSY ... why reinvent and fight when everything is already there?
Etsy is the right platform to post our items, and when you order you will instantly pay (no waiting for a separate PayPal invoice, no guesstimating on shipping etc! and face-it, it's a much more secure way to purchase... no bots, no data miners (advertising) and scammers watching your every move.
Starting tomorrow :
We are migrating all sales of the last of our inventoried products to our parent company/brand on Etsy : UnVaultedVintage . Please bear with me as I manually and individually transition all items to the Etsy platform.
Good part about this too: you have the opportunity not only to purchase one of a quality up-cycled sustainable products, you can shop through the entire store and see what else UnVaultedVintage (est.1988) has in stock! We aren't only in the "softs" business 🙂
Please do not leave this group as will be using it as it as originally intended. Informational, and new product idea announments and sharing "happy mail" etc
For now, we will still be taking custom orders via this Facebook group or the DLD page through messenger.
Once we've cleared out the last of our inventory we will only be a custom/bespoke handmade business.
Holding inventory is not a good "SMART" plan , we are a business, and holding stock is no longer a viable for a small business like us. Like many other "handmade" businesses, for us to survive these challenging economic times we had to make a decision..

We picked out this perfect vintage fabric, and a vintage buttery yellow pure linen tablecloth we had in our production stock. To make these fully reversible runners. We bought the tassels to finish off the cornered end.
We are very proud of the results of this bespoke order.

this is worth the 10 minute read. This article reflects exactly what I have been preaching for over the last 2 decades.
This is why it is more important than ever to up-cycle textiles of what we already have on hand into useful household items, decorative items, or fun up-dated wearable fashions. I grew up in a humble one income home, 3 kids, mortgage, car payments etc... dad worked as a manager, mom gave up her career as an electrical engineer to raise us. Her income was higher than dads. It wasn't easy. But reuse, recycle, up-cycle, hand-me-downs , all home cooked meal every night (there was no McDonalds, nor Applebees! Ponderosa was for birthday parties only). Made us all have a few things we wanted/needed. We were happy and healthy, well dressed , not spoiled.
I've always dabbled in up-cycling vintage textiles and vintage check out UnVaulted Vintage
I launched "Dormito Linen Designs" formally July 5th , 2017.
In the very beginning, we "reimagined" 100% pure Wabasso cotton sheets (twin sized to queen sheets, fitted and flats) to lovely sets of pillowcases (we still do!)
then next we added bags, shorts, pjs, capri pants, skirts and tops etc ...Covid had us pivot to using a lot of our 100% cotton inventory to making face masks.... in 7 mos we produced close to 5000 of them. (FYI I still have 50 in stock ... now included with a minimum of $50 order, with all the wild fire smoke good idea to wear as a filter if you're in the smoke zones. as I am - sadly)
With old denim jeans we've made f***y packs to gardening aprons ... denim holds up well carrying your gardening tools!
We've rescued 100's of vintage linen tables cloths damaged with cigarette burn holes and staining and like a phoenix they became, accent pillows for Christmas and floral for all year. We are still producing beautiful bread & produce bags. Yes, produce bags can stay in the refrigerator and by their nature linen bags make a very good crisper in your fridge when you've run out of room + they are easier to clean that a refrigerator!
We're making many reversible shopping/market bags now that one-time use bags are outlawed, and the vinyl weaved bags you can buy at grocery stores are NOT environmentally friendly + they carry bacteria like salmonella. These vinyl bags hold bacteria from raw and under-cooked foods from animals, including meat, chicken and other poultry, eggs, raw (unpasteurized) milk and products made from it, and seafood. Our natural fibre bags are 100% machine washable and made 1000x better than any of the bags you sold at checkout.

Skirts , sweaters and tops - yup we've remimaged these as well. Recently we were hired to transform out-grown and damaged Burberry sweaters into a lovely set of accent pillows for a Burberry fan. Do you have a bespoke request using your own fabrics/clothing?
