Just a few tips to make sure things go smoothly and put aside your worries.

-ask about seasonal flooding in the area and make sure your coverage reflects that properly
-check the age of large trees or poles near by and ask about coverage details if they were to fall
-sewer backup coverage is often not taken seriously, make sure you know what circumstances may require this coverage to be used
-look into and ask your broker about options that may protect you more and lower your rate such as home security

I know many people do not look at changing insurance companies or brokers until their renewals have gone up in premium.

Which is fine! Price is a factor when trying to decide which company or broker to put your insurance needs with. Regardless if it's for a home, auto, commercial or liability policy. Price is a key factor.

However, the problem with zoning in on price alone can leave you vulnerable come claim time. You have to make sure that the broker you are dealing with understands your specific needs. When a broker understands your insurance needs, they can tailor the coverage to suit you.

Home policies are not all the same and different insurance companies have different limits for different coverages. Such as, some might have higher coverages for unscheduled jewelry than others. Higher coverages for frozen food. The list goes on and on. So, you want to make sure all your needs are met.

Even for the people that have more exposures. Umbrella policies are a fantastic tool. That being said, some don't act as a traditional umbrella coverage. Some are actually just "excess" coverage. So, it only sits over top of the coverages you have with that specific company. Real umbrella policies sit over all of your insured products. Regardless if your umbrella is with Northbridge and your home and auto are with different carriers. They still provide the umbrella coverage over the other companies.

Without going into too much detail, price is a big factor. But, in my opinion, and how I do all my business, insurance related or not, is first - proper advice, great customer service, claims service and THEN price. Of course, no one wants to pay more than they have to, myself included.

Remembrance Day! The day World War I ended, 103 years ago. Today we remember all those we lost then and after. Those who fought for our freedoms in 1939 - September 2nd 1945 against the evil powers of WWII. Against those wo fought in Korea. Afghanistan after those horrible attacks, September 11th 2001. And to all those who currently still serve. Thank you and we are thinking of you and the families who have lost their loved ones.

The best time to check in with other brokers with respect to your insurance premiums is when you receive your renewal in the mail. Most insurance policies across all platforms, personal (Auto & home), commercial, general liability have cancellation fees if you cancel prior to renewal.
