Things are slowing down for the winter as we prepare to record a new album over the next few months.

We'll be playing 2 hours of music tomorrow night at the fringe bar on Granville island! 9pm-11:30pm!

We're playing in Whistler tonight at the 12th Annual Flag Stop Theatre & Arts Festival!

Balkan Schmalkan is East Vancouver’s premier dance party orchestra. Their funky brass dance beats are rooted in the aural traditions of the Roma and Klezmorim of Eastern Europe and blended with a mixture of pop, funk, and jazz. Think global music with local attitude.The group contains six to twelve professional musicians playing reed, brass, and drums of both eastern and western origin, which are best enjoyed where the audience is able to get up close and personal with the performance. Balkan Shmalkan is a spectacle unlike any other, they are a colourful, vibrant and celebrative group singing songs in 5 languages including Serbian, Romani, and Italian.

We jumped on this bill after another band had to cancel. Now there's 2 opertunities to see us on Saturday! We'll be playing at 8 at the Fox and then at 10:30 at the Russian Hall!

We're gonna do a little performance this Saturday night around 10:30 at the Russian Hall after the disco inferno show. Check out the show and stay for the dance party!

We have some new music out today. This time it's a split with our dear friends Russian Tim and Pavel Bures. As one may say "Split Shmlit".

Russian Tim added his signature punk vocals on our song "Disko Boy". And we laid down our brass on their tune "Little Corey".

"Little Corey" was recorded by Jesse Gander at Rain City Recorders. "Disko Boy" was recorded by Alex Penney at Monarch Studios. Both songs mastered by Stuart McKillop. Ksenia Kurilla added beautiful vocals on Russian version of Little Corey. And art is of course by my wonderful friend Steve Kitchen (COMBINATION13)
